Dunta Robinson? that's intriguing.. I am assuming he didn't want to restructure?

I wouldn't be too surprised if Turner and Steven Jackson ended up in either New York, Green Bay, or New England. Either of those two RBs would probably put together a pretty good year supporting those passing attacks. They'll probably come relatively cheap too... since they are older guys chasing a title.

Sucks that they cut Robinson, that means the 49ers have another contender in the CB market. Atlanta isn't a bad destination for a player either, they have a good team and were just in the NFC Championship...

Jackson just feels like a New England pick up.. Although they do have decent depth at the RB position.

I'd look into Abraham. Make him a dirt cheap offer to come in as a backup. I like him better on third downs than Brooks, and plus as a situational rusher at this stage of his career he would be a bargain to what he brings to the table for us. Provide both Aldon and Brooks some breather when need be. I wouldn't rely on him as a starter because he is injury prone, but becoming a backup would eleviate some of that wear and tear at the tail end of the season. He would come huge for us in playoffs time IMO.

i agree 100%. we need a 2nd and long or 3rd down pass rusher to come in for either mcdonald or brooks. we really need to help out our DBs! Our defense relies on pressure without blitzing and this requires top of the line pass rushers.

Since the 49ers typically rush out of the nickel formation on 3rd downs a guy like Abraham as the situational pass rusher would be ideal... I wonder if he still sees himself as a starter though and if he'd accept that role.

He would probably accept a backup role on an immediate title contender.

abraham has durability issues...i can't see a decent team giving him the starter-type money that he might want. and lesser teams would be better off investing in younger talent. i think he'll be cheap! a guy like freeney will command more money, albeit his contract should still be reasonable as a starter in a 4-3.

We do still have Parys Haralson for one more year right?

I'm interested to see what happens with Haralson. I've been a big fan of his since we drafted him - thought he was great value in the 5th. He's not a dynamic pass rusher, but he's a very fundamentally sound player, and having him back to give Brooks and Smith a breather would pay dividends as those guys would be fresher on obvious passing downs. I'm not so attached to Haralson that I would be upset if we cut him given his cap figure, just curious as to what direction we go in. I certainly wouldn't mind adding another talented pass rusher.

I'd look into Abraham.

So would I. It would actually be a good fit. He wouldn't have to start, but he can still get after the QB. And he'd have a shot at winning a SB. He's been surprisingly dominant & consistent in his older years.

He & Osi are the only pass-rush specialists I like in FA so far. Others aren't a good fit (too expensive, etc).

I doubt he is going to be that cheap. According to PFF's Pass Rush Productivity metric, which measures pressure created on a per snap basis with value weighted towards sacks, Abraham still finished sixth in the NFL last season.

This is great news that Dunta Robinson is a FA. Dilutes the CB market even more!

DRC & Leotis McKelvin here we come!

Don't want:

Robinson (still very pricey; too old. Might at well keep Rogers).
Nnamdi Asomugha. See above.
Brent Grimes (see above).
Aqib Talib

I could live with Sean Smith. The Niners are down 1 Smith (Alex); he could make up for that.

John Abraham needs to be a 49er by the end of the day. It would be in his best interest to sign before everyone else is a FA.

I'd like to see Abraham, Sean Smith, Desmond Bryant, and Ed Reed added. Extend Boldin to lower cap number this year. Cut Manningham and Goodwin.
