He overachieved for a shorter guy his entire career. Well, all but last season.

"Mr. Tulloch..... This is the 2016 Detroit Lions. You need to head on out."

The way it sounds from President Rod Wood, Caldwell needs a winning season for Caldwell to keep his job.
If Caldwell has hard feelings for some of the fan base wanting him canned then the season is screwed.
If Quinn's signings and drafts picks are incompetent then the season is screwed along with Caldwell.

There's a fairly new front office with a clean slate with a head coach basically hanging by a thread. Granted Mr Quinn probably has his hands tied by Martha. I still think it's dumb shit wasting a whole season instead of starting out fresh with a new head coach or for putting Caldwell on the hot seat rather than letting Caldwell think he could fulfill his 4 year contract. A flash from the past... the players were loyal to Rod Marinelli in 2008.

"Lions GM Bob Quinn said MLB Stephen Tulloch is still on the roster due to "contractual issues."

Quinn made the pronouncement at the Owners Meetings last month, and the Lions have still not resolved the issues. After paying him a $500,000 roster bonus, Detroit may be inclined to keep Tulloch around despite telling him they planned to move on in February. Owed $5.5 million this season, Tulloch would have to accept a pay cut to stick around."- Rotoworld

He only sticks around until after the draft unless he has sustained an injury not spoken of prior. If it's an injury issue then once healed he'll be released.

glad that both Tully's and Whitehead's replacement is in the fold coming up on the night of April 28th, 2016.

Whitehead will be Tully's replacement as far as I can see. The defense was borderline top 10 the second half of the year when Whitehead was in for Tully. I get the feeling that Austin might think that Whitehead earned it. Otherwise, why preannounce Tully is out and sign Whitehead?

Why then did the FO announce Tully's departure back in February and not sign Whitehead immediately during the first day of FA. It was two days after FA began before they announced his re-signing with the team. I get it that Whitehead wanted to seek out other offers from teams and may very well had an offer from the Lions beforehand. Still, it makes no sense from a timing perspective when and how Whitehead was signed.

Did the Lions try to sign Danny Trevathan or another LB'er in the 3 day pre-FA prior to Whitehead ?

If Levy isn't fully recovered (I highly doubt they'll know that until training camp begins) then you'll see someone else manning one of those two LB'er spots while leaving Bynes in the backup role. I just don't see BQ relying on a healthy Levy when there's nothing to gauge upon right now that he is or even will be other than hoping so.

Bottom line is that you'll see at least one if not two LB'ers drafted. A WLB and MLB because Bynes is no more than a backup that can het you by for a short period of time and Franklin, Greene, VanNoy and Copeland are much more in line with SAM and ST's or minimal backup LB'ers at best. jmo.

Greene has the speed for WLB but he lacks the coverage ability. Those damn Rutger's players.

Agreed. Van Noy or Copeland would be a huge dropoff is Levy is not the same. We certainly need an upgrade at WLB as Bynes is the only guy who may make the team. Greene and Franklin may be on the street before the start of the season. Whitehead will make it too, but no guarantees of a decent backup although all 3 starters can play MLB. I think you are right in that we will draft at least 1 LB.
