Hazard's Huddle: Controlling the Middle Of The Field - Hogs Haven

here is some plays , the type of plays RG3 is failing at , that take an amount of trust to be good at

the 1st one he didnt trust morris to make the block and he took off to run and missed a wide open garcon

the second one is he got dump off challenged to AM and should have trusted the throw to reed .

the 3rd is a replay of the morris throw but instead he missed a td to hank .

gruden mentioned trust and Rg3 needs to have it in the system and his teammates

that is the flaw that is screwing him in my opinion KC will make it even if it is a bad choice , RG3 wont

Glad you posted this dad because I wanted to talk about Cooley's film breakdown today of Griffin and Cousins performance last Saturday.

First of all Cooley believes Griffin is the QB of the future.

Cooley's biggest point is that Griffin isn't letting go of the ball. Plays like 5 yard hitches and outs to the outside are timing plays. He doesn't throw to an open receiver he should throw to a spot and when the receiver comes of the break the ball will be almost on top of him. Griffin is waiting for the receiver to be open whicn in the NFL equates to an INT.

Griffin did not throw to an open Roberts on one rollout and instead ran the ball out of bounds. As your article pointed out he also did not let the ball go on the Garcon or Reed plays mentioned in your article. All of these plays were open

Cooley also mentioned that Griffin focuses on the pass rush instead of down field when he thinks there might be pressure. He is not trusting the receivers to be open and is waiting for them to be open.

Cooley believes it is because he is lacking confidence. He said that Robert threw these same passes with succes two years ago and he just needs to get back to that spot again.

Now comes what I will call the funny part. After doing the segment on Griffin, Cooley was going to do Cousins in the next segment. He started out saying "I am going to say a lot of good things about Cousins but it doesn't mean he is the better QB."

He went on to say Cousins is getting the ball out on time, trusting his receivers and doing what is supposed to be done. He mentioned how Cousins is helping to get the line into the right protection. He talked about how most plays the QB knows to go to the left receiver or right receiver based on his pre-snap read and Cousins is doing that well. He mentioned that even though Cousins may know he is going right or left he looks straight down field at the snap in an effort to influence to move the DBs with his eyes.

I am not telling you who I think should start, just reporting what I heard. I say again that Cooley thinks Griffin should be the starter. I am just finding it funny that more and more reporters are saying "Cousins is playing better but that doesn't mean he should start."

Although I am a fan of Cousins I too believe Griffin should start week 1. I am very interested to see how Robert perfoms when Gruden game plans for him.

well if he doesnt "let it fly " as gruden is saying then you will have tavarus jackson

that o/line is causing issues by getting pushed back

when they give him a good pocket good stuff happens when they dont then doubt creeps in

RG3 needs to get a handle on this

it may take some time :suds:

Great read. Here is my question after reading this article, do you think Rg3 is shell shocked from too many hits, sacks, and hurry's from the oline not holding their blocks? kind of like all the other qb's the Redskins have drafted ex ( Patrick Ramsey, and Jason Cambel ? )

too early to tell

How can you say its too early to tell? given last years Oline debacle and how he was quickly running out the pocket in the Ravens game, I don't think the man has any trust in his Oline to hold the blocks long enough, and of course he would never say that but ill willing to put all my chips on the table he sure is thinking it

Quick fix for that... throw the damn ball and quit hanging onto it so long. I dont see any one proclaiming post traumatic stress disorder for Dalton, Luck, Tannehill, Wilson, Ponder or a list of other QBs who have taken just as many hits, sacks and other such bumps and bruises.

The game is just moving too fast for him right now. He doesn't trust his reads. This is going to get worse before it gets better. So far, defenses have not been game planning for him. Wait until they see him on tape. They will hide their schemes, completely confusing him. This is one of the reasons I would mix in a healthy dose of bootlegs and rollouts. While it limits the field, it also only requires him to read half the field and in negates much of the disguises defenses may throw at him.

this is why i see a 6-10 record . it could be 1/2 to 3/4 s of the season until this gets sorted out

and sitting him down in my opinion wont help him get it sorted out he needs the reps

but we have a portion of this fan base who will never let the team grow and develop . its short cut city for them

peyton manning didnt win a playoff game till year 6 . this guy is starting his 3rd year .

now the flip side j-y is we havent showed much either . perhaps they used the preseason to get him work in the pocket and now they will open up the playbook . perhaps not

I don't see how opening up the playbook simplifies the game for him. I think the only thing that will help is putting RG3 in a position to do what he does naturally, create havoc. Keep the defense guessing. Then, when you to call a traditional pocket pass play, hopefully the defenses are on their heels. Start off with a healthy mix of pocket pass and plays that put RG3 in space. as he learns and grows, migrate to a more pocket passing centric offense.

He isn't shell shocked. He is trying to unlearn what he has done his entire life. In the past it was fine for him to take off and use his legs whether to scramble or run. Now his coaches want him to stay in the pocket. He can do it but it isn't automatic for him now. It is for Cousins because he was in a pro-style offense in college.

what i mean about opening up the playbook is to run plays he is comfortable with , sorry that wasnt clear

This is my take too.

As Cooley stated yesterday, Griff has Gotta learn to be a ball distributer and to have trust and faith that his receivers/playmakers are going to be where they are supposed to be. He's got some of the most talented WRs in the league. He has the talent and the arm to throw them open, he needs to learn to not hold on to the ball and throw to a 'spot'

It's gonna take time and patience. From the fans as well as from the coaching staff and Griffin himself. And will require some transition style playing with rollouts, bootlegs, a sprinkling of RO plays and a moving pocket, as he learns better pocket presence.

Only my opinion of course. Could be proven dead wrong...

How about Johnny Finger & free lifetime passes to RnR HOF for Dan Snyder in exchange for Kirk Cousins?

I think that would be a helluva trade. Am I wrong?:noidea:

A head case for a solid backup on a team that may possibly need him this year? I'd only take a 2nd round draft pick for him...1rst preferred...:D
