Insane. No one is worth 50 million a year. I don't care if you are the love child of Babe Ruth and Ted Williams.

They most definitely are if the revenue is there and that's the market value.

Except that a big part of trouts game is his speed... teams dont like giving big/long contracts to speed guys in fear that they will lose the speed when they reach a certain age... Of course there are players like ellsbury that still get their deals, but it is just not as common...

Trout is of course much more than speed, but to get the absurdly large contract(better than cano) he may have to become a better hitter first...

Speed is actually a small part of Trout's overall value. It's just a talent he has to go along with his other, more valuable talents.

That said, you continue to say senseless things. Teams don't like giving big/long contracts to speed guys? You might want to tell the Yankees that (Jacoby Ellsbury) and the Red Sox that (Carl Crawford). And those two don't have Trout's power, which won't wane as he gets slower.

Dont get me wrong, he is an elite hitter already... But to get a contract that rivals cano's with length and money(he would deserve more), he might need to become more of a power hitter since the assumption may be that he will lose the speed...

Seriously, do you follow baseball at all?

He will easily top Cano's contract...

Better player overall, actually outside of Miggy, he is the best player in the game.

He will get close to 30M a season, easily.

He's a better player than Miggy... Miggy is a better hitter. Trout is a better player.

There isn't a org in the league using those numbers from fangraphs to hand out contracts. There is a difference between theoretical value, and real world value. The market doesn't support 30 million a year, let alone 50 million a year.

The heck they don't. They got Cano's last 5 years valued at $18, $25, $24, $35, and most recently $30. Other things come into play but all things being equal a players WAR equals their value. I wish Basketball would use similar logic cause if they did guys like Melo would be exposed. His off rating is only like 104 and his def rating is 104. Over half the players in the league would be better to have on the court than Anthony.

To incentive him not to go out on the free agent market in a few years and seek a potentially bigger deal from another team.

Rays did that with Longoria and Mets did that with Wright early in their careers...give them a long term deal in which they'll be making a lot more in their team controlled years in exchange for staying long after their normal free agency year.

Yeah, this is pretty much exactly what smart teams are doing these days. Almost all of the young "stars" are getting locked up long term before they get close to free agency.

10 years $500m? Are you kidding me?

The Mariners would have to pay 20 years $1 billion just to get him up here in Southern Alaska.

Mike Trout and the $400 million question - ESPN

Buster says an independent agent would request 12 years 400 million. That's a deal imo. I think Trout might be the first athlete that is worth more than the market can afford.

If they can guarentee he won't get hurt it would be a deal, unfortunately there is no way to guarentee that. Therefore a smart team would have most of the money as vesting options, 400 million is too risky without.
