I have enjoyed A Closer Look on the regular, only to remember it's all real and get sad.

I no longer think Trump is actively stupid. I think his brain is just wired to deal in absolute hyperbole, that he feels he needs to build every little thing up into a crisis so, when it's kind of fine in the end, he can claim huge victories. He's compensating, very intentionally, for his own incompetence.
