Harbaugh said that Alex further seperated himself during the mini-camps, but I wonder how much of that separation was because he was treated as the starter. People say that having the starting job will relax you and make you complacent, but I think that let him focus just on football instead of the other guy. We, of course, have no results yet so I can't talk like he's arrived. But if Harbaugh had been equivocal, I don't think his press comments has that much of an effect on Smith, but if he then made them split with the "either one of you" starting QB competition, we may not see such separation. Now, of course, Harbaugh could just say what he said, but the reporters seem to have a consensus that Smith has picked it up and Kaep has struggled.

I want Smith to be hungry as ever and don't fall into self entitlement of any sorts. With all the knocks he heard last year, I think it played a big part into his preparations and performance. Like not only to win the game but to prove the skeptics wrong.

First time we'll see him(and our 49ers core) coming into the season after a 13-3 season/nfc title game loss. Do they go into the season feeling hungrier? or complacent? This is the next chapter in their careers.

I feel like an idiot for just noticing this now after reading that article, but I wonder if Randy Moss chose the 49ers because they play the Vikings and the Patriots. He is probably going to be pretty amped for those games considering how things ended for him with those teams in 2010.

as long as we win he'll be amped. IF we lose like three in a row, then who knows?

he already knows he isn't getting a lot of throws like 5 years ago, so don't see this - by itself - getting him down.

Healthy, stronger Ginn reports with 49ers rookies

Ginn is noticeably bigger as camp opens. He said took advantage of his inability to practice during the offseason program by spending more time in the weight room. He gained about 10 pounds from last season and now weighs 185 pounds, he said.

at this point thats the main thing, have an even stronger mindset.

if he wants to try returning punts and kick offs in practice and even pre-season, fine. cause you never know when injuries might decimate a particular spot?

hopefully he doesn't have to do it in real games this season.

Agreed. Its sad when I have to resort to watching the CFL on the internet. Its a shame our forefathers didnt come up with a better summer "pasttime" than baseball.

This is the most brutal time of the year. This time every year I'll see a baseball game in the background and think "hey it's not THAT bad. I think I'll watch this for a little while." That's when you know it's really, really bad! Hey the drought is almost over.
