I see Phil Kessel as a guy who could help a team win a Stanley Cup, but I don't see him as a guy that you use as a center piece to build around. Thus, although I am no fan of Damien Cox, I think I would try to move him in order to look towards the future.

agreed ... solid secondary player

I think part of the problem with Kessel is what it cost the leafs to acquire him. If they trade him, it makes that initial trade look even worse (and would be a nonverbal admission that Boston stuck it in their pooper).

Although I view that as a sunk cost and it should not factor into their future plans. If they feel that they won't re-sign him or get him a quality center, then get your value in a trade and move on.

Unfortunately I don't think the Devils really have what the Leafs would need in return, but god damn would I like to have this guy on a PP with Kovy, gross.

I agree he's a better Robin than Batman though.

the rumours were that Cox was THE sounding board for Burke and leafs ideas

new GM in Nonis ... same case???

Let me guess; those rumours were started by the same people that gave us the, "Burke knocked up Hazel Mae" rumours.

It was said last week that Corey Perry could get 9M per this offseason. So yeah I could see Kessel getting 7M per.

damnit paul, 9m for corey perry is a bad idea!

Geez your team is loaded as it is. The last thing the rest of the league needs is another Neal for Goligoski kind of swap.:scared:

Yeah and don't forget the Leafs would throw in a Gunnarsson, Kotska or another D to make up for the loss of the d -man the Penguins give up in the deal.

Since Lupol signed long term with the Leafs I see Kessel doing the same.

I can see the Leafs doing something crazy like going all in for Malkin if he makes it to Free Agency. If that means somehow unloading Grabovski to another team.

As others have said he is not the leader that the Leafs thought he could be. Crazy talent and a great addition to team that does not have all the focus on him.
