Given that Pagan will be injury prone for the rest of his contract, and that we (unfortunately) are going to be buyers this month, I submit the following possibilities:

1. Dexter Fowler: 28, above average hitter (117 OPS+), below average defender (-1.2 dWAR). Would cost about $2.6MM for the rest of the year, arb eligible next year (probably around $10MM). .377 OBP means he could lead off.

2. Gerardo Parra: 27, average hitter (career 94 OPS+), good defender (around 1.0 dWAR). $1.6MM for the rest of the year, arb eligible next year (about $6.5MM). We'd be buying low on him as he is struggling this year. 253/301/353 vs. 273/326/394 career. Snakes would be reluctant to trade within the division.

3. Desmond Jennings: 27, average hitter (106 OPS+), good defender (1.3 dWAR). League minimum, controlled through 2017. Scott Boras is the agent. 246/337/391 isn't prototypical leadoff but could fill in if Pagan were out. Could be part of a Zobrist/Jennings package.

4. Ben Revere: 26, below average hitter (88 OPS+), below average defender (-1.6 dWAR). About $700k for the rest of the year, controlled through 2017. 295/316/354 suggests he would contribute at the plate but not much power. Probably more of a fourth corner OF type. Would improve the bench.

Good post.

Out of these choices the one that might seem the most likely would be getting Jennings and Zobrist in a package deal. It's the one I would go for. Where do I sign?

How about we send you BJ Upton and Dan Uggla. We don't need anything in return, yall just pay their remaining salaries.

I liked Revere when he was a Twinkie. His OBP the last three seasons have been .342, .352, .354. ANd he has good SB numbers (this season 26/3). SB numbers would be a waste on the Giants, as Noggin is loathe to have anyone steal a bag. If Dee Gordon was on the Giants, he'd have less than 10 SB.

What about Kirk Nieuwenhuis of the Mutts?

I'd really like to find out what TB wants for Jennings but given he is under team control for awhile and he is a buy-low candidate right now, they'd probably want to keep him

Just Zobrist alone will cost us a very good prospect, + (though I still want him)

I'd like to see what the Mariners want for Abraham Almonte. Started the year in Seattle then was sent down and really struggled in Triple-A but hit .306 in June and seems to be turning things around. Not saying he is an everyday guy but someone I like

Pat Burrell Giants scout has been following Zobrist around for about three weeks now. Cross your fingers.

2B may not be the problem anymore, between Panik and Scutaro.

We need a leadoff hitting outfielder. Can Zobrist play OF or lead off?

I'm reading that SabeySabes is going after Parra

I saw this a few days back. Getting him would push Pence over to center. While Parra has a rocket for an arm, isn't his range and general fielding average at best?

If we do, in fact, get Parra, it better be CHEAP. He is having a horrible year. His OPS is .655 and he has a negative dWAR (per BBREF). Further, he is not a leadoff type. Really, he is just an OK #4 OF.

Not sure what he adds to the team outside of depth (which, admittedly, is something we need).

Oh yeah. He's played over 2500 innings in the OF, mostly in RF though. As for leadoff, he's a high OBP guy. Not really a big stealing threat, but has at least 10 in the last 5 seasons. Most importantly, he works the freakin count.

Well, BamBam will fix THAT in a hurry. We can't have that.

Pence is not a prototypical leadoff guy, either, but has done well there. I'd rather see him further down the lineup to have more RBI chances, but that assumes someone is on base.

I'd be OK with Zobrist.

I am not OK with Parra coming over.

Just in case SabeySabes comes looking for me, or is lurking on the board.

I am intrigued by the Mutts' CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis. He went to Azusa Pacific, and hits well, gets on base, is relatively young. He was hurt early this season. Not sure they want to give him up, but he would work as a CF/leadoff guy.

Gary Brown has elevated his game in Fresno lately. I think he's a head case, but heck, if he can get on base, head cases are welcome. He should see a cuppo in September, but maybe sooner if Oxy continues to be out?

Brown couldn't possibly hit worse than Blanco, could he? Call him up.

I agree. Brown has played well this year. I think he has earned the shot.

I dunno about "well." His K/BB ratio is about 5, he's hitting below PCL league average, and his OBP is also below league average.

He has flashed some pop, but I'd say he's been "decent." And better than last year. As for earning a roster spot on the big club? Not IMO.

I agree, Pence has been doing fine leadoff, but I would love to see him hitting 3rd, and give Posey a break and put him cleanup. Zobrist at the top would be just fine. Then if Pagan ever comes back, Boch could have a field day putting out daily lineups. He would have a ton of options.

And it may be time to give Brown a chance. At whose expense though? Panik?

Nope, they should DFA Blanco who has been horrid this season in field and at the plate.
