Either Stewart, Lamar Miller, Chris(??) Polk, or Pead from UC.

I love Pead. Just think he is phenomenal. I just could Only dream in the forst 3 rounds, bengals did something like this

Dre Kirkpatrick - CB
Michael Floyd - WR
Nate Potter - OT/G
Isiah Pead - RB

I love Pead as well - But I'm a Beartcat homer so I'm not very objective.

I wonder if his stock will climb during the combine. He'll likely have better speed than many of the 'top' backs.

I would be all over that.

Haven't seen much Kirkpatrick, is he a speed CB or more of a press CB? I'd go with any of these CB's in the first: Kirkpatrick, Jenkins, Clairborne with our first 1st rounder, if we wait till our second 1st rounder I'd be looking at:Gilmore, Cliff Harris, Hosley, Dennard.

Pead is going to end up going in the late 2nd or early 3rd round. Watch.

He's got everything you want in a RB:

Size
speed
hands
blocks

His stock will rise at the Combine. I just don't think he's going to stay around long past the early part of the 3rd round.

Dream Scenario:
-Oakland gets to the AFC Title Game and gives us a 2013 1st rounder.
-Instead of drafting a running back, we instead fortify the offensive line and go with any combination of Benson/Scott/Leonard for another year.
-Oakland brutally tanks in 2012 because of having one of the hardest schedules in the NFL, thus giving Cincinnati a top 3-5 pick in the draft.
-We pick Marcus Lattimore.

Considering how unlikely that scenario is, I'd say fortify the line early in the draft and see who falls to the 3rd round.

Any combination of these 2 circumstances would be my idea top 3 rounds:

1a. Morris Claiborne CB LSU
1b. Cordy Glenn OG Georgia
2. Markelle Martin FS Ok St
3. Isaiah Pead RB UC or LaMichael James RB Oregon

Or

1a. David Decastro OG Stanford
1b. Alfonzo Dennard CB Nebraska
2. Lamar Miller RB Miami or Chris Polk RB UW
3. Winston Guy Jr S UK

It's like I'm looking in the mirror (minus grabbing a RB with a 3-5 pick).

As for the OT, if we can get a very good RB in FA, then there's no reason not to go in that direction and use the presumably 1st round pick on another need.

Generally, I would agree with you. But Lattimore is one of those prospects that warrants an exception (as long as he's healthy).

Though my idea off season would be this:

Sign Michael Bush RB
Sign Earl Bennett WR
Sign Carl Nicks OG

Resign: Anthony Collins, Jonathan Fanene, Manny Lawson, Reggie Nelson, Chris Pressley, Dennis Roland, Frostee Rucker, Jerome Simpson, Pat Sims.

Extend: Andre Smith, Geno Atkins, Thomas Howard, Michael Johnson, Rey Maualuga.

Draft some combination of this:

1a. Morris Claiborne CB LSU
1b. Cordy Glenn OG Georgia
2. Markelle Martin FS Ok St
3. Isaiah Pead RB UC or LaMichael James RB Oregon

Or

1a. David Decastro OG Stanford
1b. Alfonzo Dennard CB Nebraska
2. Markell Martin FS Ok St
3. LaMichael James RB Oregon or Isaiah Pead RB UC

Not sure how our money is looking or if we would have enough for all those. If I had to cut one it would be Nicks, who is also the most expensive. Anyone have the numbers?

These are both really good scenarios (although I'm not that familair w Wisnton Guy)..I think they'll need to trade up in 2 to get Miller, though (which they have the ammo to do).

You'd rather draft the next Bernard Scott in the 6th. I see.

Or one of these guys:

Fred Jackson (undrafted)
Mike Tolbert (undrafted)
Lagarette Blount (undrafted)
Danny Woodhead (undrafted)
Benjarvus Green Ellis (undrafted)
Pierre Thomas (undrafted)
Ryan Grant (undrafted)
Chris Ivory (undrafted)
Willie Parker (undrafted)
Ahmad Bradshaw (7th)
James Starks (6th)
Chester Taylor (6th)

But I could settle for say a Stewart, Bush, etc. in FA and save the pick for another need.

Fact: RB is an easier position to fill in FA than QB, OG, OT, TE, WR, DT, DE, LB, CB, and S.

So why not address a bigger need in the draft and look elsewhere for a RB? It just makes too much sense. Then in 2013, if we have most of the major positions filled with few to no glaring holes, I would absolutely not be opposed to a high round RB. Luxury pick for a luxury position.

I'm all for signing Bush or Stewart. You listed 12 solid NFL backs from late rounds. Want me to go back and list all of the not-so-good backs from the late rounds over the past 2 years? It would be about 5 or 6 times the size.

You could do that, but then I'd say you've probably missed the point.

Edit: There have been MANY failures at EVERY position late in the draft. So, should we not bother and just give those picks away?
