I think youll have a hard time getting regional cdn tv numbers because the industry protects them and you have to be a subscribing member that pays for something as specific as hockey ratings for a metro area

monitoring is done by bbm in canada and they use ppms so you get actual viewers/listeners (not shares of households that neilson gives you which you then have to multiply by average number in a household to get estinates of actual audience - because the 2 year old isnt always watching)

but numbers do come out in dribs and drabs

for vancouver i have heard the 200k average audience number thrown around (375k average for the entire network (ie province) which includes Yukon terr.) on a game night +18860 average attendance with a metro pop of 2116581 gives you 103.4 using your formula

i looked at the numbers for the canadiens but had to use provincial (Quebec) tv ratings and population because i dont know the market of montreal and it still produced a 74.09

I bet if you factored in college, AHL, and high school some of those cities would jump up a bit (Philly, Minny, Boston come to mind).

Montreal accounts for roughly 30 % of the Quebec population. The population in MTL is much more diverse than the rest of Quebec, but they are, of course, crazy about hockey.

Because the Habs actually play there you can assume a bit more commitment, so the number would be more like 105.9, just by eyeballing it.

I would suspect that Buffalo's number would be consistent with the rest of the Canadian cities.

See what I did there?

WE'RE #1!!! WE'RE #1!!!!

I was not surprised to see Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Detroit in the top 3 spots.

The Bruins look like they got a much needed bump thanks to Jeff. :D

Why did you have to say that IPW? We'll never hear the end of it. :L

Lol, that actually made me laugh out loud at my desk... Asshole.

That would be good enough for Jeremy Jacobs just think of all the extra playoff revenue he gets to pocket.

C'mon, people, wake up! I guess my joke about Buffalo being a Canadian city was too subtle... :L

Oh I got it, just been enough of that drama going around the last few days. No need to stoke that fire, though luckily the Buffalo Guardian has water powers, so he can easily put it out.

Sorry, but the Dallas Guardian has water times infinity. No word on who gave it to him, but word is he keeps a magic gerbil in his pocket...

The Dallas Guardian is Richard Gere?

I keep checking the page on the NHL Web site to see the next one released b/c these are just too funny.

This may be the dumbest thing the NHL has done post-lockout.

What Province is Raleigh in?

I hope that's it. I hope we just moved to Canada.

otherwise I'd have to believe that we scored below Miami and Atlanta to not even make the list... and that would make me a sad, sad panda.

LOL! Great line.

I must have not had TV data on them. I didn't even notice. Or maybe subconsciously I'm still bitter b/c I always liked the Whalers... :)

I knew there was a reason I liked ya. Hearing the brass bonanza at the CT Whale game :-)L) last week brought back memories.
