A borderline HOFer, for sure, but he always had my vote, and I am good with his induction. Just because he loses in a landslide to one of the greats does not mean he should not be a HOFer.

I don't see him as a HOFer...

only 4 seasons with 100+ RBIs(high 137)
only 5 seasons with SLG over .500(high .568)
0 seasons with 50+ walks(high 48)
7 seasons with OPS+ being 130 or higher(high 157)
3 seasons of SB over 30(high 39)
4 seasons with dWAR over 1(high 2.1)
career OBP of .238 in 15 playoff games


Really nothing there that screams HOF, it looks like he only made it because he played for 21 seasons... But in 21 seasons he still didn't hit any HOF milestone number...

He hit 400 HRs before they started including that milestone in Cracker Jack boxes.

In the 80s, he was one of the elite hitters in the game while playing elite defense. Again, no one is going to argue he is Ricky Henderson, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, etc. and if he ended up falling short of the Hall, I would have been alright with that as well. Like I said, he is borderline. But he did put up his impressive numbers pre-stink. I think he gets forgotten because the numbers started blowing up at the tail end of his time.
