Just to be a contrarian.

Bench is clearly the best ever.

IDK 95 OPS+ and the rest of his number do not look average to me. I would say he either was a great defensive catcher for his time or he accumalated the WAR by stayinga round a while.

He as already been passed for #32 at Catcher by Yadier Molina. Maybe I should have waited a week:noidea:

y berra #5, holy crap, he revolutionized the position, was an All star almost every year of his career, 3 mvps and a few rings. Berra and Bench are argued 1 and 2, Gary Carter #2, a farce I say, a farce.

I used BRWAR as a reference to rank them. WAR being a cumulative stat, I would think that Carter, Rodriguez, and Fisk all played significantly more games then Berra to be ahead of him. The one that stuck out to me was Campanella at 25.

Well then you can vote for Berra over those guys when he comes up. He wasn't ranking them, just listing them by their WAR values and allowing people to vote.

That's why this will get more interesting once the votes get down to 16 or 8 guys left.

There are a few in each position that will be interesting this round, but the #1 - #32 game was going to be bad regardless. Bench Ferrell, Mays Cameron, Ruth Drew, and the others are really no Brainerd. Just a good place to start.
