Very tough one.

Terry was not a power hitter, and at 1B, that hurts.

Thomas played in a tainted era, and played a LOT of DH.

I am leaning towards Terry, mainly because of the DH issue. But I am not voting right away.

At the same time though, Terry played 600ish less games, which may have helped out his rate stats a bit in the comparison.

I think Thomas' dominance is just too great and where he easily beats Terry. Thomas' career average OPS+ (156) is almost as high as Terry's career best OPS+ of 158.

But it is easier to play for 600 more PAs when you don't need to play the field. I think THAT helped Thomas pad his rate stats.

Thomas was a 60% DH.

That may be the deciding factor for me.

To an extent, but when you consider how far ahead Thomas was compared to Terry in his 1000 games at 1B, he would've had to fall off a cliff to end up with comparable numbers.

Thomas through '97ish had about 1,000 games at 1B and a 182 OPS+. For him to match Terry's 136 OPS+ in 1700 games, Thomas would've had to have an OPS+ of about 70 for those remaining 700 games. In other words, he would've needed to hit like Luis Sojo for those potential additional 700 games at 1st to equal Terry's OPS+.

The DH discussion has popped up. Wait till we get to Edgar Martinez Toby Harrah vote.

Because I wasn't doing a DH category, I put any DH at the position in the field they played the most.

Yes Thomas played significant amount of games at DH, but if we just speak offensively it is not even close... It is like comparing Ted Williams to Tony Gwynn...

also Thomas played just over 1300 games at first base, while terry played nearly 1600 defensive games... that really is not that much of a difference... And it wasn't like Terry was a great defender either...

You may want to check your numbers again...
