Morrow's above him. I'd flip the two, at least. Despres has shown he can play professional hockey. Morrow hasn't. And I can't imagine Morrow's ceiling is so much higher that he should be put on the list above Despres.

I agree that Despres should be higher, but I'm curious how he's proven he can play "pro" hockey? :help:

3. Ryan Johansen, Center, Columbus Blue Jackets

Wow. Gotta get down to camp next week.

15. David Savard, Defense, Columbus Blue Jackets
Who? Seriously with all the Moore and Golubef talk, I am not sure I've heard anything about this guy.

17. David Rundblad, Defense, Ottawa Senators
Nice. A shining moment for Murray on that kid.

40. Nikita Filatov, Right Wing, Ottawa Senators
lol. So this list is based solely on the on-ice product and nothing else? Gobs of talent, but nuttier than a snickers bar with peanut butter and wrapped in peanuts on top of a peanut cake.

90. Patrick Wiercioch, Defense, Ottawa Senators
Was he hurt or something? Surprised he was this low.

Indeed. He probably be in the top 10 on this list. With what he did in probably the second best league in the world (50 points in 55 games from the blueline is crazy) he is probably the best D prospect in the world.

He struggled for the first 2/3 of his first pro season. He improved quite a bit down the stretch but he remains a bit of a project. Still he's a guy who is 6'4 and can skate with decent hands. Needs to think the game better and put on some serious weight. He looked pretty damn good in the rookie tournament though.

He was on the preseason roster last year. He hasn't shown he can play a full season, but he was playing on the same ice as professionals, and the game didn't appear to be too fast for him, so he's shown he can play at the professional level, at least for a short stretch.

In any case, he's close to "NHL-ready" than Morrow, which was the point I was trying to get at initially.

Strome isn't too high. This kid is going to be a big time player. Having seen Erixon play in a few of those prospect games he's light years ahead of most defenseman his age when it comes to poise & awareness on the ice. He isn't too high either & I can't stand the Rangers. Depres & Cowen should be higher.

I do think they gave far too much credence to this years draft class. Which going into last year wasn't considered that good.

Compared to some of the names on the list, I am surprised to see Couturier that high. I'll take it!

Oh and thank you picks 1 through 7 in this years draft ;)

Going into the draft I said all along I didn't want the Isles to take Couturier. I don't like his skating. I'm glad they passed on him & Hamilton for Strome. I think Couturier was overhyped because he was just bigger than the other kids in the Q. We shall see.
