Anyone want to stump for any of the guys here? I am not strong for any of them, so I am not stumping here.

At some point, we'll start to give pitchers more credit that they are getting.... I'd take Walter Johnson over those two all-day.

I'd probably take Christy Mathewson, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, & Roger Clemens, too...

It looks like Mantle will be eliminated as this one will likely go to a 3rd runoff. Given a Johnson v Gehrig, I agree that it is probably time for a pitcher. But I also think Gehrig will ultimately win this slot.

no need to do that... just call out the mantle voters and make them switch... a fourth vote is too repetitive...

That won’t work, and I wouldnt support it anyway. Bigger late surges have happened.

no... i mean, after the poll is over...

sure people can change their mind... and do... but we have had 3 polls already where lou gehrig has beaten Walter Johnson...

just saying you can already see people are losing interest... having the same vote 4 times does not help....

Nothing will cause a loss of interest more than bastardizing votes just to move it forward.

After much deliberation, I'm on the Big Train. I could never put a modern pitcher this high but his cartoonish WAR numbers and shocking 110 career shutouts made me change my mind. Also he was striking out batters when batters were trying not to strike out.

While this is enjoyable, the multiple runoffs do feel a bit stretched out. I'd hang with it but I don't know if others would.

Agree, but the alternative is worse. If I were to simply take the popular for, but not require a pluralist victory, than more people would be pissed since assumptions would be made just so we can “move on”. I don’t see the point of “moving on” just for the sake of “moving on”.
