Let's go with Young this time, he's the greatest pitcher never to have won a Cy Young award

Very “old-timey” runoff. And pitcher-heavy.

While I think this SHOULD go to Lefty or XX, I won’t be overly irritated with any of these guys taking this spot.

lefty vs Foxx...

this is actually pretty fun one since they actually played against eachother... both started their careers in 1925...

H2H would be interesting, but really shouldn’t have anything to do with this debate.

why not... it is impossible to compare a hitter to a pitcher... so why not base it on actual stats... sort of call it a tie breaker...

Because this is not a runoff of these players against each other, it a runoff of these individual players against the field.

Grandpa loved Jimmie Foxx

We're into the old legends portion. Guys that were in the books we read as kids.

What Mathewson did in the world series was insane. And I loved Cole Hamels for his WS performance.

The greatest World Series of all time.
Mathewson’s Series totals: 27 IP, 13 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 18 SO, 1 HBP, 0.77 WHIP

Lead the league in K's 5 times. K/BB 7 times.

One of the first 5 voted into the Hall.
Almost his turn

Lefty led the league in ERA 9 times.

Young was the greatest inning eater and “winner” of all time.

Mathewson was the first great pitcher in the league’s history and still the greatest post season pitcher ever.

Early, but as much love as the pitchers are getting in the comments, this is starting to look like a runaway win for Foxx.
