How did Heatley escape this list??? $7.5mil for an estimated 49 pts.....or an average of $153,061 per point. It's not like Heater is good defensively or plays the body to help compensate.

Compare that to Havlat's $5mil for an estimated 43 pts. and an average $116,279 per point.

I'm not saying Havlat hasn't been disappointing.....because he has. However, he was injured for all of the offseason, preseason and the first 4 games of the regular season. It's not like he's had a ton of time to get into game shape and gel with his teammates. They've both (Heatley and Havlat) been disappointing though.

i can see him not doing that. I think he is very loyal to Vancouver. They gave him his career from the ECHL and the Sedins gave him that contract. He just took it to a different Level. He knows that this is part Canucks part Burrows success. I think he will sign for actual market value and not go for the stupid.

What about Joel Ward for the Caps? I thought they spent a pretty penny on him but I haven't really kept tabs on his production. I liked him in Nash but didn't think he deserved the 7 mil (i think) contract he received

the thing is actual market is probably double what he is making which might put the team in a pinch ... depending on the new cba

Eric Staal, Carolina – $8,250,000 cap hit Coming off a very good season, during which the Hurricanes captain recorded 76 points in 81 games, Staal has been slumping badly this season without his former line-mate Erik Cole, who has signed a multi-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens. Staal has a league-worse -18 ratio to go along with only 12 points in 26 games.

Tomas Kaberle, Carolina – $4,250,000 cap hit Signed as a free agent by Carolina in the off-season after winning the Stanley Cup with the Bruins, Kaberle has only one goal and 13 assists for 14 points in 49 games since he got traded by the Maple Leafs last season. The offensive defenseman has zero goal this season to go with a dismal -12 ratio.

yeah taht is true. Salo will be off the books next year he will retire after this year or we will let him go. Ballard will most likely be gone as well if he doesnt produce and if the cap goes up we should be ok.

I read he pulled his groin last game. I remember the play where he stumbled on the ice. and yes play like this he can play as long as he likes.

I must be missing something here.

Matt Read signs a 3 year contract for 2.7 mil that doesn't kick in till next year.
2011-12 800k
2012-13 900k
2013-14 1mil

He is currently at 9 goals 5 assists for 14 points
Quite the bang for the buck for a potential Calder trophy candidate.

Please note that the numbers — both fiscal and hockey-related — are based on the 2010-11 season. Obviously, some contracts and performances have changed dramatically this season. Also, rookie contracts weren't included.

Ward only makes $3 million a year.

Interesting they don't include rookie contracts. I guess it makes sense since they are more boilerplate. But I'm guessing this is where a lot of value is on most teams. On the Caps, I know MoJo is on pace for a $19,565 per point pace this year. I'm sure a lot of teams have a guy or two like that.
