Trying to figure out why Lavi doesn't put Hartnell in the shootout.I guess a hattrick doesn't warrant it?

heh, no way i put hartnell out there for a shootout attempt.. even if he scored all 5 for the flyers today i wouldn't have put him out there.. he scores from in front of the net and on that PP one-timer, he's not a shootout taker (not that simmonds is a better choice)

Alright the long awaited results from my count (each mention was a point in my list), here are the top 3 in each category

Stars:
t1. Couturier - 8
t1. Bob - 8
3. Read - 6

Goats:
1. Bryz - 6 (though he got 3 of his mentions since 1/14)
t2. Lava - 3
t2. Mesz - 3
t2. Briere - 3

the goalie matchup:
Bob 8 Stars, 1 Goat
Bryz 5 Stars, 6 Goats

so i'm pretty slanted towards bob, but i think its only fair when you look at their stats

Bob: 10-4-1 (.666) :: 2.46 GAA :: .919 sv%
Bryz: 18-10-4 (.563) :: 2.99 GAA :: .895 sv%

i realize bryz has played better competition, but bob deserves the slant. i think having bryz only be "-1" in terms of star/goat is being very reasonable w/ him.. and i think its very fair considering i do mine based on how players measure up to my expectations for them.. ie. if shelley went out and scored a goal, he'd probably be my #1 star, even if giroux puts in 2.. i dont have the same expectations for bob as i do for bryz

also just an fyi, bryz has given up 4 or more goals 13 times this season... thats 40% of his starts.

Sadly, they don't allow you to have Giroux set up a one timer in the left faceoff dot in the shootout.

Apparently running the goalie is still cool though, good job on that attempt Read.

2) Schenn. Glad to see you decided to show up kid. Welcome.

3) Bryz. Made a couple of big saves when needed.

Goats

1) Bryz. Way to hug the post you fucking retarded asshole.

2) Gusty. Holy out of position. Wow. He could NOT have had a more terrible game.

3) Refs. Inserted themselves into the game within seconds of the opening puck drop and stayed there blowing call after call all day. Sad.

that goal went off of the guy in front and through the five hole not between bryz and the post (another shining example of no physical dman in front clearing the porch....but what do i know)

porch shoulda been cleared (or at least stick tied up), but come back across the net with your pad behind the goal line isn't the best way to stop the puck

the D hasn't been great, but bryz has bailed them out very few times (though he did have some monsters yesterday)

he could've (and probably should've) stopped the lucic goal too.. the rest he had no shot on

Stars:

1. Hartnell (I see what you did there, Tox)
2. Talbot. Guy scores two goals and can't get any love, I guess.
3. Physical play - we really took control in the second and it was basically because we hit everything that moved.

Goats:

1. The refs. I know we complain about the refs a ton as Flyer fans, but this one was baaaaaaaaaaaad.
2. Bryzgalov. He let five goals in, though the first two weren't really savable and the third should never have been allowed to happen. Also, a shootout save or two would really, really, really help.
3. Whoever was assigned to cover Scott Hartnell. It certainly looks like the man knows where he's going, so after the second goal from the same spot, maybe you should cover him? I dunno.

ya, i shoulda mentioned him.. he almost single-handedly killed that 4on3 in OT too.. i think he had 3 or 4 blocks, mostly on chara shots (ouch.)

Apparently you don't recall his effort from last year. I think the only thing that stopped him was runnung into the cross bar.

This was the worst called gamer I have ever seen. They were equally bad for both teams. My buddy kept saying that it may have someething to do with the national stage. That guy #13 really, really, really sucked. We gave it to him pretty good. (did alot of good :lm:)

then where is tim thomas on the goats list? i thought he let up 5 goals as well, he must blow then too.

and if giroux makes the same shot that lucic did, its an amazing goal. the shot was a freaking laser in the top corner. first (and only) reaction here is to just blame the goalie it is so irritating.

awaz i know we banter about this, im not always trying to come directly at you by any means, its more of an in general thing and usually your posts are clear enough to respond to the best (just an FYI ha)

ha if i made a list of people to take that shot there would only be 4 people after simmonds:

shelley
sestito
bourdon
hartnell

which shows what i think about the hartnell comment but also of what i think about lavi's decision on simmonds taking that shot, he really had no business out there.

haha ya i know, i think i'm the only that ever defends my anti-bryz comments anyway.. but to your first point, i rarely put opponents unless one of them steals the game (anderson from a few games ago was one i can remember) or really shits the bed (sounded like clutterbuck would've been an option, but i radio'd that one)..

as for looc's shot.. i actually thought about that during the game cause my first reaction was, 'cmon bryz'.. (actually it was 'that was interference', but..) and then i was thinking about all the goals coots has scored recently and how we loved the shot.. looking back, while they are good shots, pro goalies shouldn't let in shots that they can see clear in (when taken by a guy that's had the puck for a measureable amount of time), especially from that far away.. so ya, its a good shot, even great, but a shot from that distance with nobody in between the goalie and the shooter, is a goal that shouldn't happen.. would bob have let it in? ya probably, cause he woulda been down in the butterfly a full 2 minutes before the shot, but that doesn't excuse bryz in my eyes

and i think we've recognized that the defense needs to improve, but the goaltending is an easier thing to improve than the defense.. especially given the situation.. bryz is a vezina caliber goalie, the d-corp has 2 rookies that weren't supposed to play this season, or at the very least, be relied on all season.. and timo has done just about everything his 5'10 frame can do.. leaving coburn, carle, and mesz who, for the past 2 years, have consistently had 1 play well, 1 play alright, and 1 play terrible, rotating every game

its all on expectation to me.. i expected bryz to be vezina caliber, and i expected the defense to be pretty solid.. both have been between alright and horrific in 90% of the games this season, bryz has had the bigger drop off and therefore gets more blame from me

ha if i made a list of people to take that shot there would only be 4 people after simmonds:

shelley
sestito
bourdon
hartnell

lol my list might be the same as yours.. coburn might be under simmonds though too.. simmonds was a bad choice to put it kindly

i was up off the couch screaming INTERFERENCE before the shot was taken and screamed FUCK so loud i scared my dog, blatant blatant blatant pick thrown that should have been called. left so much room for him in the center of the ice it made me sick.

ya, that was one of an abundance of incorrect calls the refs made yesterday.. the 'trip' on voracek that gave the bruins another goal was pretty aggregious too

Panthers

Stars
1. Schenn - nobody busted his ass more than him in that game. good to see
2. Sestito - nobody busted other people's asses more than him in that game. good to see
3. Bob - really only made 2 saves that i thought were tough saves (just prior to the 1st goal), but he made 3 saves in the shootout, which i didn't think we'd see all season combined.. so he gets a mention.. plus i didnt think anyone else played very well

*didnt wanna wreck the flow, but i wanna add that i REALLY like what sestito brings to the table.. he's everything the flyers hoped shelley would be when they signed him.. just a menace on the forecheck, he'll fight anyone, and he can actually skate faster than me! i really think he brings a dimension that the flyers need. having him and rinaldo on the 4th line is something i want to see.. sorry harry z.. (if/when everyone comes back).. and sorry jvr, but if we can trade you for a similar you that plays defense (ie L. schenn) i want to do it.

Goats
1. Bourdon - dude is straight timid right now. so indecisive, he's turning the puck over like crazy.

2. Giroux - his defensive play has been pretty horrific lately, he deserves to be called out for it.. i expect him to always be that beacon of dogged work, his gliding back on D caused the panther's second goal.. if he goes hard (like he usually does) he catches fleischmann and there's no goal

3. Jam-levels across the board. i thought it coulda been better tonight, all i'm sayin.

that being said, good win flyers.

Missed the game. (work)

....and D, come on man. Lighten up just a bit. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so if you don't agree with an opinion or if someone changes their mind from game to game -- it's still all good bro. I mean, it isn't a contest to see who's always right or wrong the most/least in here. We're all just a bunch of arm chair GM's talking shit. :)

Because the Bruins were the only ones to score a PP goal on a botched call?
