Tim McCarver detailed a conversation that he shared with Tom Seaver recently.
Tom Terrific said...with a touch of anger-
" There are three components to pitching. Velocity, movement and location. The least important of the three is velocity. When you rely strictly on pitch counts, you are dismissing the fact that when a guy gets into a high pitch count, he may lose a few MPH off his heater, but it is foolish to remove him if he still has location and movement. Especially if you are talking about a star pitcher. Stop babying pitchers!"
