I don't see how Nebraska makes the NCAA Tourney this season without an auto-bid by winning the Big 10 Tourney. I also don't see how Erstad keeps his job after this season.
Illinois is #8 in the Big 10 (bottom half).
Huskers lost (1-8) at HOME to them yesterday.
The Huskers needed a walk-off hit to beat them (4-3) in the 9th today.
This is Erstad's 8th season as head coach. He had NO prior coaching experience at any position or any level prior to being handed the reins by T.O. Wrap your head around that. Never coached Little League, High School, College, or Pro baseball. Never even coached a player position in Little League, High School, College, or Pro.
He was simply a great player at Nebraska and in MLB. He's simply milking this job as his personal ego toy. Nebraska's best talent goes to play elsewhere. Even the likes of Wichita St and Minnesota steal Nebraska's better baseball talent.
Erstad is coaching in the Big 10. This is NOT a 'Baseball Conference'. It is not the Big 12, SEC, ACC, or PAC 12
Let's have a clear look at Erstad's results over the years.
2012: (35-23)(14-10) 4th in Big 10. Big 10 Tourney 4 seed (1-2 overall) Double elimination. NO NCAA Tourney.
2013: (29-30)(15-9) t2nd in Big 10. Big 10 Tourney 3 seed (4-2 overall) Double elimination 2nd place. NO NCAA Tourney
2014: (41-21)(18-6) 2nd in Big 10. Big 10 Tourney 2 seed (3-1 ovarall) CCG was single elimination 2nd place. NCAA Tourney Oklahoma St Regional 2 seed (1-2 overall) L Cal St Fullerton (1-5), W Binghamton (yes I spelled that right) (8-6), L Cal St Fullerton (3-4) Eliminated.
2015: (34-23)(9-14) 8th in Big 10. Big 10 Tourney 8 seed (0-2 overall). NO NCAA Tourney
2016: (37-22)(16-8) 2nd in Big 10. Big 10 Tourney 2 seed (0-2 overall). NCAA Tourney Clemson, SC Regional 3 seed (0-2 overall).
2017: (35-22-1)(16-7-1) 1st in Big 10. Big 10 Tourney 1 seed (1-2 overall) Did not make CCG. NCAA Tourney Corvalis Regional 2 seed (0-2 overall). Lost to 3 seed Yale (1-5) and lost to 4 seed Holy Cross (4-7).
2018: (24-28)(8-14) 10th in Big 10. NO Big 10 Tourney/NO NCAA Tourney.
Post Season:
Big 10 Tourney: (9-11 overall) (1-6 since 2015) Never won it.
NCAA Tourney: Three trips in 7 years (1-6 overall)
2019: In progress but crashing and burning with no offense. This is the first time in 24 years the Huskers have lost back-to-back series to the cretins (2018/2019).
The Huskers are (23-15)(12-5) with 10 games to play. After leading the Big 10, they've since gone (3-4) in their last 7. Of the 3 wins they were over Nebraska Omaha, today over Big 10 #8 Illinois, and a win over Iowa in an overall series loss (1-2).
They'll need 35 wins to sniff the NCAA Tourney. Therefore they'll need to sweep their last 10 regular season games and win at least 2 in the Big 10 Tourney. From here on out, every game they lose in the regular season they'll have to win another in the Big 10 Tourney to get that 35 overall.
Tomorrow: Illinois (1 game for the series) Must win
Next weekend: @ Big 10 #11 Northwestern (3 game series) Must Sweep
Following weekend: #11 nationally Arizona St (3 game series, Haymarket Park) LOL
Following weekend: Big 10 #1 Michigan (3 game series, Haymarket Park) Must Sweep
Big 10 Regular Season Championship, Big 10 Tourney Championship or he can GTFO.
