Gamecocks are on a roll! We started the SEC schedule against Kentucky (who won their first 20-something games) and Florida (#1 ranked at the time). We were swept by UK and lost the UF series 1-2 (in the 9th...), so we started with a 1-5 SEC record.

Now we've won 11 straight SEC games and are tied for 1st in the conference with a 14-7 conference record. Not bad after a 1-5 start! (13-2 since then)

Anyway, I say this here because the Nebraska folks have been so good to us in the last couple of years in Omaha. If we make it back again I might just have to head out there and get crazy!

i would definitely recommend it. i gotta find some way to get to a few games...my buddy has great tickets, but i'm taking classes and working this summer so i don't know if it will work out.

Here's the scooby.

NU will likely need 38 or 39 'overall' wins to get an At Large spot in the NCAA Regionals. Losing the one game to CSU Bakersfield last Saturday and having the other 2 games cancelled due to weather really hurt. They've got 11 games left on the regular season and will need to win 9 of those 11 AND win 2 games in the BiG Tournament to get a sniff as a bubble.

Purdue is as good as in for at least an At Large. If anyone other than they win the BiG Tournament then the BiG can get 2 teams into Regionals.

That has been the case for a few weeks now. The bigger problem is even making the Big 10 tourney. Only the top 6 make it. Nebraska is currently 7th with the Minnesota and Michigan series to go.

I am not saying "fire Erstad" but my opinion of this hire is something I still stand firmly by.

I'm concerned that this team hasn't improved at this point. I expected some earlier losses due to the new coaching staff but expected by now they'd be getting the hang of things.
I'm with Jed on the Erstad thing. That T.O. didn't go out and get a proven mid-major (of which many were available) and double his salary is just head shaker. I can't imagine enduring 4-5 years until it's determined Erstad was just another great player that didn't translate into a good coach.

It may not matter though if the BiG 10 does something stupid like going on it's own and plays a summer/fall league. We may be saying goodbye to baseball anyway and that's why T.O. didn't invest anything into a coach.

HUGE series sweep over Minnesota. Now just win 2 of 3 next weekend and we don't have to worry about not making the conference tourney. Without seeing updated standings after today's games we might be able to get away with going 1-2 next weekend.
