I don't get it. At least Asche is in against a lefty but I don't understand the fascination with Gwynn. He's got a lifetime .283 obp and .564 ops against lefties and he's leading off, with Mayberry sitting on the bench.

It's a wash. Gwynn does suck against lefties but Mayberry is rough in the outfield, especially in center field. I'm just happy Revere isn't starting

brown is 0-6, howard 2-18, utley 3-25 against niese

maybe they'll get lucky? maybe hamels will pitch a gem? odds are against them. poor planning. somehow, you need something more along the lines of..

and whatever after that. at least that top might be able to scratch out 1-3 runs if they could get a big hit. (and as i type, double for rollins with weak outs from utley and gwynn. not expecting much from howard here. banking on luck is poor planning.)

You realize it's Tony Gwyn Junior, right? Mayberry is older than Gwynn and he only has like 30 ABs. They should be giving him some work against this guy

I was kind of indifferent towards the two. Maybe JMJ should have gotten the start, but whatever. They may just want to keep him on the bench as a late-inning power bat. I just didn't want to see Revere.

Yeah, but Mayberry has done well against Niese so I figured he'd play, but yeah maybe they wanted to have a right handed bat off the bench. Or if you want to go with a really crazy theory they wanted to sit Revere but they were afraid to put Rollins back in the leadoff spot

Revere should be starting. He's .372 vs LHP. Gwynn is now 0 for 10 vs LHP. A small sample but he stinks overall at .213. Sandy must be getting senile. Way to go, dopey.
