Oilers' Renney sees team making playoffs this year

"Nothing would surprise me with this group at all, nothing at all. It won't surprise me when we make the playoffs, it won't. The biggest surprise of all might be if we don't," Renney said to media on Friday. "Because I know how deep the care is, I know how willing they are to be coached, how proud they are, quite honestly, to be here doing this in Edmonton."

book it, done.

Sarcasm is tough to pick off on the internet... do you have a video clip of him saying that?

So, let me get this straight...You play a game versus an opponent who's playing their 3rd game in four nights (tough travel from Calgary to Vancouver to Edmonton) and put a few goals behind a struggling Steve Mason and all of a sudden you think you're playoff bound?

Senility has officially set in for Mr. Renney.

Renney's trying to anti-jinx his own team, obviously.

I really feel that Renney shouldn't put unsubstantiated hope into the minds of the Oiler faithful. I think at this point they were content with the idea of it being a rebuilding season and if they win a few hard fought games, it will bode well for future progress and being a competitive team. Throwing this kind of comment into the mix can be dangerous when fans have already been itching for a return to the playoffs since '06. Not a wise move Renney. :L

as much as I love to rag on Oilers fans,
they are smarter than to get fooled by any coach's rhetoric.

they have some very good young assets, but I'm pretty sure they all
know that they will be getting another good young lottery asset next summer

I don't question their intelligence, I'm sure that you're right about their expectations, but I still feel that it could influence their opinion of Renney getting a little ahead of himself and plant a seed of frustration when fans feel they should be winning more than they are. That's all I'm saying. :D
