for all you stat geeks on here, and those who only dreamed of playing this game at a high level, JUST LISTEN!

everything from scouting, contract signings, spring training, ETC! its a joke!

first off, the size of these kids today, they look like football players! there is NO way you can maintain size/muscle mass with a grueling 162 game schedule, its insane, how often can you work out? i look like that at the gym, then 2 hours later i don't, been working out over 25 years! these kids maintain it, the shiny skin, the muscle tone is NOT the norm!

everything about the game today is a joke, just listen to former players. i happen to be a yankee fan, just the other day i hear singleton saying there was real hate when you played your rival, today there isn't any. and why IMO? because of the MONEY!

and i happen to agree with goose sayin he was the best reliever ever, he had no one setting him up, and he had to get many more outs than Mo... MO's cutter was awesome no doubt, but the goose had to earn those saves lot more than MO had too.

could go on & on about this topic... another thing, so many talented kids will never get a shot today cause they don't fit the 6'3 220lb frame all scouts look for!

SAD!

Sorry, Mo is the best there ever was. It's not his fault he was born 20 years after Gossage and reliever roles had changed. Mo did just fine working multiple innings throughout his illustrious (mythical?) career.

Gossage had a Cy young award winning reliever setting him up when he first got to NY, and then had Ron Davis (who was sensational in '79 and '80)

I loved Goose back in the day, but his constant whining about this perceived disrespect is really, really getting old, and his insistence on singling out the greatest closer who ever lived for attacks is what's truly sad.

there is nothing to be sorry about. you don't have the experience to know where i am coming from! its not whining, he is bringing to light the times thats all. he didn't bring up the comparison, baseball did!

Mo, was a stud no doubt, but... heres the deal... Mo comes in game most of time with lead and pretty much the 9th right, YES! there is MORE pressure on the hitter isn't there? YES of course! how did Mo do when he came in tie game, NOT as good right, YES! Y is that? because the hitter has less pressure. he can take a look at a pitch...

So. you are bitching because Goose Gossage didn't get as much respect as Rivera; therefore the entire national game is a bag of shit and nobody should watch it anymore. Check, gotcha.
And exactly how much experience does somebody have to have to disagree with this inane rant that has no beginning, middle or end?

I don't have the experience to know where you're coming from? What the hell does that mean?

Unless you are in fact, Goose Gossage, that makes zero sense.

Rivera had a 0.70 ERA in 141 post-season innings. Gossage? 2.87 ERA in 31 innings.

So who, exactly, has excelled more under pressure?

My favorite Goose Gossage video (he was not a Yankee at the time).

oh and yes, the game is a joke today, its a freak show of who can hit the longest HR!

players today are bootin the ball all over the field, too many injuries, too global, lack of respect for the game, tatoos, beards, undetectable roids.... yea, it has become a joke!

I don't fuckin' care. There is zero reason to chew on your own nuts over it. What the fuck?
I have an idea for you. Here's a manly man's sport. That goofy-ass referee costume is kinda gay, though.

No tats. No shit. You can get season tickets. Stop embarrassing yourself on a baseball forum.

College ball.

But have been watching professional baseball religiously, specifically the Yankees since 1975, so I've seen Gossage in all his glory. He sometimes went as many as 3 innings-October 2 1978 comes immediately to mind. So did Rivera, October 16, 2003 comes immediately to mind.

Gossage is a HOFer. Deservedly so. He also can't carry Mariano Rivera's jockstrap.

End.
