Is a bootleg a designed run? Answer isn't really clear, is it? It's a run/pass option. Griffin is ideal to run bootlegs, probably more so than any QB in the league.
Man I know what you mean first hand. Having played football in the 70s and how the coaches word was gospel and then watching and being involved with my nephews now I see this first hand. It's an entirely different world in so many ways. These kids have had trainers outside of HS. They had three ex-NFLers on their HS coaching staff etc etc. as they moved on to play college football. The elite of the players get treated much differently than we did 40 years ago. Their expectations are much higher. It's not right or wrong just different and the modern coach needs to be able to deal with it. I agree that Shanahan did not deal with in that aspect.

Yep, that's how I see it too
I don't consider a bootleg a designed run and hope to see it
Romo is a scrambler too, and he's a better QB when he has protection in the pocket to make better decisions,,,,
Truth. And that Dallas Oline is looking stronger and stronger...wish I could say that for us, tho hopefully we've bolstered it enough to see improvement this year in pass protection. Should be interesting...
Think we've got enough players on O that can do the work, that it's not necessary to play Russian roulette with a QB that has had 2 injuries to a knee. Why design a play that increases the risk of him getting hit? That's my take anyways.

there isnt anymore risk then when he scrambles in fact there is less
2 knee rebuilds is a solid reason IMO not to have your franchise QB running designed plays. Now don't get me wrong I am not bagging on RG3 he has tons of talent but he needs to develop his pocket passing skills. Purposely risking your franchise qb on a running play after 2 rebuilds is kinda crazy to me.
However getting his skill set developed further in the pocket passing dept to me is critical in Griffins development. I am not saying he is bad by any means but he does have room for improvement as does any Qb on any team in the NFL.
Kid is amazing at QB. It would be a shame to see his career shortened by Needless injury.
JMHO
I don't have much hope for the Cowboys, but I'm jonsing for some Football!
The point of team board threads is to work within the parameters of staying on topic. Other opinions are always welcomed as long as they are pertinent to the topic at hand, IMO.![]()
that is a myth . every time RG3 got hurt it was NOT on a designed run . the concussion vs atlanta was a roll out
vs the ravens it was a scramble
vs the hawks he tweaked it on a roll out
vs the hawks it was a snap from the shotgun
4 times in non designed running plays 0 in designed runs again i say ZERO
i am against eliminating it from the offense . reduce it ? sure but why take away a weapon from the arsenal ?
I understand what you are saying Dad and while those are the ways he was hurt I would respectfully disagree on how RG# is used.
With RG3 it is a risk vs reward scenario and to me the risk outweighs the reward
While there is no way to completely guard against injury you can mitigate the chances to some degree by the way you use a player IMO. You have a player that has had the same knee repaired twice for the same injury. The chances for a career ending injury on the same knee is higher than with a player that has not had that injury.
Imo and it is just a opinion I would want to protect that player as much as I could against further injury especially when that player is My QB. You will never take away RG3's instinct to run with the ball on a scramble and you shouldn't. Although if he does take off he should be well aware of when to slide early and not risk a tackle. A designed run just ups the odds he "could" get hurt again. Given his importance to the team is it really worth the risk after the 2 injuries already ? That might be the real question and opinions will vary of course
Given that any player is an Injury away from retirement maybe its a moot point anyway.
I wish him well just not against My Cowboys

i am of the school that if you afraid to get hurt you will get hurt . you drafted RG3 to be RG3 . if you didnt want his dynamics then we should have held on to our draft picks and selected ponder or tannehill
and again , the facts are he has never been hurt on a designed run never ZERO . so the odds and history say he is in more danger doing the other things
i would say 30-40 designed runs is about right
