Niner fan here, so I'm obviously biased. It's nice to see non-Niner fans who think it should've been a penalty. I know you guys probably hate the Ravens, but you probably hate the Niners, too.
Anyway, I couldn't believe that a flag wasn't thrown. I was waiting for the yellow flag symbol to show up on my TV screen and it never did. The DB damn near tackled Crabtree. And it's so annoying when people say that Crabtree was pushing off. He was just desperately trying to free himself from the hold so that he could make the 4th down play.
Despite this, the Niners should've made more plays and made the terrible officiating crew a non-factor. The Niners had their opportunities, and overall just didn't play well yesterday.
Good luck with Dalton and the Bengals next season. Having previously lived in Dayton and having friends in that area, I would be happy to see the Bengals continue to have success. A Dalton-Kaepernick Super Bowl showdown is just destiny, right, with these two being drafted right next to each other.
I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning, and Greenie said that in the last ten years, over 110 total playoff games, that pass interference and/or defensive holding has been called in the last two minutes of those games exactly three times. Guess the message is at the end of the game it's up to the players, period. Anyway this particular crew was in the end no different than the overwhelming majority of playoff officiating crews. I certainly understand San Fran fans being pissed off, and I'm sure I would have been equally pissed off if I were in their shoes, but it is what it is, right or not.
Ten years is exactly 110 playoff games. They talked about this on PFT on NBC Sports Network, and the stat they had was twice in the last 55 playoff games. I guess other situations weren't as glaring because they probably didn't involve 4th and Goal with time running out in the Super Bowl. I guess you have to say it is a good play by the DB, knowing that refs will rarely throw the flag.
I hear you, it was obviously holding, and under normal circumstances should have been called. I found Greenie's revelation amazing. Apparently they are just not going to call it, which should mean a receiver should be able to get away with pushing off, too.......I wonder what the offensive pass interference stats are for the same set of games?
I immediately began thinking about the Ohio State-Miami National Championship Game when I saw that no-call by the refs. I know you guys remember that game. Flag came out late, but it did look like the Miami player held the Buckeye receiver. Damn, I wish that ref was working the Super Bowl.
my eyes told me the ravies were the better team...they won, as well they should have. Flacco toasted the vaunted SF defense.
also, I predict Alex Smith is still playing in this league after Kapernik is done.[/QUOTE]
I couldn't disagree more. Kaep is on the way to stardom, while where Smith ends up will say much about his future. Kaep is also big enough, and multi skilled enough to hold up physically for a long time.
I guess what he means is he'll need to learn how to be a better pocket passer, or he'll go the way of Michael Vick. Vick used to be electric, now he's a broken down has been. No one would have predicted during Vick's prime he'd be what he is now. These hits take their toll.
The thing is, Kaep is already a better pocket passer than Smith.
