mirtle says that Kennedy's camp was willing to sign for 835k before arbitration but the sabres wanted him for less...uhh, he's worth that little amount IMO. buyout is cheap for RFAs i guess, something around 333k

Sabres fans are going to be shocked by this. There were some rumblings that Regier was slightly unhappy with the award Kennedy received, but it was likely only by about $200,000 or so.

The Sabres are stacked up front, too, but this still doesn't add up. Pretty shitty deal for the Buffalo kid, although I thought he should have came out of the lineup plenty of times last season.

Mixed feelings about this because I believe he has the potential to be pretty solid two-way guy. His offense was never tapped last season because he played on the third line with Grier, etc.

Eager to see more reaction out of the 716. The kid must be crushed.

I don't think they have the cap room...but interesting thought nonetheless. Reuniting the South Buffalo boys!

Nope they're done.

are you talking about chicago? they only have 18 guys under contract.
they still need five cheap ($600k average) players.

they are done shedding, but they need to pick up some scrubs.

I am sad because he's a Buffalo kid but a little happy the Sabres had the balls to do this. I root for the home team and esp a home boy but as G town said, there were many time's I wanted him benched.

Don't worry about the kid he will still make a lot more money than most of us do. A team like the Rangers, Leafs or Flyers will throw probably even more bucks at him. To that I say....

Good luck.

Edit. I just saw and remember dash's comment in the other Tim K thread "Derek Boogaard hasn't scored in something like 270+ games, yet he's getting 1.65 million for the next four seasons from the Rags..." The kid will do fine somewhere.

I am hoping the Penguins pick him up so I can say, "Kennedy Kennedy Kennedy swing batter". Need a few more Kennedys.

I give up on trying to understand what the Sabres are trying to do.

IPW, I wanted to punch the TV sometimes with him. Very inconsistent but I agree the Sabres should have just let him walk instead of signing him then putting him on waivers.

You would think a kid playing in front of his home town fans would bust his balls and go all out.

you aren't permitted to walk away from an arb award under $1.66 million.

To me, as usual it just seems like the Sabres are cheap. Reminds me of the Phillies.

Chris, Why pay for a guy that gives a half assed effort in front of his home town fans? Will he do better in front of fans of a city he wasn't born in? I don't blame them for this move and maybe the kid will wake up.

True, but like I kind of eluded to earlier, they literally are walking away for a mere $200,000 more than they offered. They had $9 mil before today left under the cap.

There's a million reasons why this doesn't add up.

$200,000 is like pennies in pro sports. He has untapped offensive abilities. Despite his struggles, it seemed as though he was one of Lindy's favorites as a two-way guy. He's only 25. He's homegrown talent. Regier never hinted they were going to go in a different direction when the ruling came in.

Many questions about this move.

Agent confirms team will buy out contract.

Sabres held a 1 p.m. presser. No details yet.
