"why are we worrying about the Tigers or any other team but the Angels? Let's win the division first and then worry about the playoffs"

Always good to have an attainable goal to play for every night... so it is better to be fighting to pass DET (or NYY for that matter) than it is to be looking back to just stay in front of LAA. TEX does that as you said by playing its game and letting everyone else worry about them ... but at the end of the game ... it is all about passing the guy in front of you.
