The Giants are going to announce what they are doing with Melky on Thursday. Maybe he might be coming back after all, with Romo speaking out like that we know at least one person in the clubhouse doesn't have a problem.

Melky is eligible to play in the instructional league this Saturday, so he certainly has time to get ready (albeit not vs. high level of competition).

An announcement on Thursday stating that he is going to instructional league would "fit".

Assuming all is forgiven and the team accepts him back with open arms, there is no way he will play in the NLDS. He would only be eligible for game 5. I think if they do plan on using him, it would be for the NLCS, as worst(best?) case, he would only miss games 1 and 2.

lol, both of the above would have received rep. Well played gentlemen.

I hope this doesn't create a dichotomy in the clubhouse. As long as they have done and said the right things and have had the right conversations within the clubhouse walls, I'm good with whatever decision they make. That said, if it were left up to me, I think I'd make it known publicly (although privately to the team first) that Melky will not be a factor for the Giants in the 2012 playoffs. I'm not against him coming back next year, but I think there needs to be a clean break from him for this season. Some of the Giants don't seem to care one way or the other, some want him back and some seem against it.....I don't think that would be a good cloud hanging over the dugout/clubhouse. Let the Giants focus on what they need to do for the rest of this season/postseason and worry about Melky next year.

Can you imagine the scene in the clubhouse after game 1 of the NLCS, with 55 reporters crowding around Leche and the few who don't asking MVP what he feels about Leche?

Yeah, me neither.

He is not automatically eligible, but he is in the universe of eligible. Any player who was on the 40 on September 1 can be added with the right hoop-jumping.

Marco, can you explain further?

There are several post-season rosters (a new roster is possible for each series: DivSeries, ChampSeries, WS). For a player to be on any post-season roster, he must be :

- on the 25-man roster on Aug 31
OR
- on either the disabled list or the bereavement list or the restricted list (e.g., suspended) on Aug 31st

ALSO, if somebody who is eligible via one of the two rules above is on the DL and thus can't make one of the post-season rosters, ANY PLAYER who was with the org on Aug 31st (and stayed with the org) can take his place - the person doesn't even have to be on the 40-man roster (but must be added to the 40-man roster if he is not already on it).

It used to be that injured pitchers could only be replaced by pitchers, and position players by another position player (but not necessarily the same position). I seem to recall that was changed a couple of years ago, but I'm really not 100% sure what the situation is today. These guys will be on the DL when the post-season rolls around : Wilson, Surkamp, Sanchez. There should be no problem for Nady to make a post-season roster.

Back to the rotation question...am I the only one that is terrified of Timmy taking the ball? Even his second half has been spotty, and his latest start was a nightmare. Or, do you hope for the best knowing that the team can't take the chemistry hit of their "ace" not starting a game? Right now...I'd rather have Vogelsong take the hill than Timmy...

Heck, I think I feel better with Zito going out there...

Terrified? No. Sphincter a little tight? Yes.

Beyond that, the car wreck watcher in me wants to see Timmy take the ball with Hector as his catcher, because the blogosphere will explode. The carnage will be fantastic. And if Timmy can nail it, well, that's just icing.

Would rep if we still did that.

LOL. Did the blogosphere explode after timmy shit the bed? Wasn't paying attention. And BTW, a lot of us preferred Vogelsong coming out of the pen, rather than starting. :boink:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I, for one, had no idea that Timmy takes less than 10 pitches to warm up. I don't know how that information escaped me, but knowing that now, if there is ever a need to question who should come out of the pen again, the answer will always be Lincecum.
