Here's the thing, though. Why should teams be rewarded for tanking (especially under a hard salary cap)? All 30 teams should have an equal chance at the No. 1 pick, in my opinion.

It's good to have parity, tho. And it gives the fans something to be excited about at the end of a shitty season. If Calgary finishes near the bottom and you end up adding RNH to the roster, it gives you hope, no?

Parity has been achieved with a hard salary cap and 3 point games...If the current management can't put a competitive team on the ice, then they should be replaced. You shouldn't be necessarily rewarded for year-after-year of bad performances anymore.

I kind of agree. I think the bottom two teams in the league should be relegated and the two Calder Cup teams from that season should be promoted. That way, there would be no incentive to tank...

You're the first guy I've heard bring that up. It certainly would make trading a first round draft pick more interesting.

I checked out Capgeek during the game and saw that the Devils and the Flames are icing the two most expensive teams in hockey (in that order). I bet that makes for two very pissed off owners.

There are too many spineless GM's in the league that cave into the agents.

I know Buffalo fans harp on Darcy for never retaining top talent, but I appreciate his approach for trying not to drive up salaries for the rest of the league.

It just comes down to the league having not only incompetent general managers, but ones without much business sense or hockey sense either.

See a lot of that. 10+ year deals only make sense to a GM that knows he has a five year life span.
