Just re watched it on DVD.

1) Odd to see WR's putting their hands down on the LOS. I guess there was a rule back then that anyone that was on the LOS had to have their hand down. Just weird seeing WR's in a three point stance. I'm glad they changed that. I'm also glad they eventually outlawed that whole 'we'll put our hand on the ground and all stand up at the same time' thing Dallas did. Just annoying.

2) The zebra's use to make the penalty call to both sides of the field.

3) Fashions sucked back then. Stands were packed with "Farrah do's" and people in weird hats. Some guy on the sideline for the 'Boys named 'Crazy Ray' that actually had a spicot attached to his hat and water coming out of it.

4) Roger Staubach had a REALLY long day. The Cowboy offense just about went nowhere. Poor guy was sacked 7 times and threw 3 INT's.

5) Scoring for the Steelers was weird. The final was 21-17 but the Steelers got their 21 via 2 TD's (missed XP), a safety and 2 FG's.

6) That sideline pass from Bradshaw to Swann where Swann tip toes along the sideline was Terry's first pass of the game. The Steelers opened with 9 straight runs.

7) Not sure what the fascination was with the Goodyear blimp but they kept showing it.

8) Jack Lambert was a beast. I saw one play where he was in the hole before Newhouse was and tackled him the second the ball was handed off. I'm pretty sure that whole Cliff Harris patting our kicker on the head pissed him off.

9) The game was played early in the afternoon and was followed by golf coverage. Back then the SB didn't draw quite enough people watching it to put it in prime time.

10) It never hit me until today but Tom Landry never wore a headset.

That game was considered perhaps the best SB ever at the time that it was played. Other than that, about all I recall is that Lynn Swann had a great game and made a couple of very acrobatic catches. Used to love to see him and Stallworth go up and get balls that Bradshaw threw up high. That has become rather common, but it was pretty unusual at the time.

That was one awesome defense and they were aggressive from the get go. Dallas used a defense that was more about stringing out the run and reading, not so much charging up field. Their strength was the offense.

Pittsburgh didn't have a single yellow hankie that whole game and Dallas only had 2.

That tells you how important both coaches felt penalties were. It's also why they both won multiple SB's and both are in Canton, Ohio.

Tony Dorsett would join the 'Boys the next season and help them win a SB.

Terry just flat outplayed Roger that day. He just did a better job of protecting the ball with 0 turnovers.

Odd to see kickers missing the XP, though.

It's a trip back in time watching that.

The 'Boys got the ball back with 2 minutes and a lot of change left and could have won it, but their offense moved slowly by today's standards and only got off 5 plays. (They had no timeouts).

I guess no one had invented the 'two minute offense' yet.

And my favorite commerical was Mean Joe Green and the kid coke commercial. Lambert was scary and met Rocky Blier and he was cool

Eh the only bogus call in SBOWL 40 was the stupid unnecessary roughness (or whatever it was, illegal tackle?) by MATT HASSELBECK (QB) LMAO. That was absolutely ridiculous and uncalled for, but the rest of the game Seattle just sucked. There was a hold on the Willie Parker run but it was pretty ticky tack. Seattle's linebackers were caught with their pants down and the strong safety (Boulware I believe) completely whiffed on what should've been a blow up (possible FF) tackle. I don't think Ben got a TD either but it was so close, whatever. They probably would've gone for it anyway.

Seattle probably wins SBOWL 40 9 out of 10 times but Steelers caught them on an off day. The only Seahawk that DOMINATED that game was Walt Jones. Porter was a complete non-factor the entire game. Shaun was average, Matt was shaky, and Seattle's entire WR core just flat out sucked. Drops, running horrible routes, no separation, and ZERO playmaking after the catch.

Even the D coord and Holmgren sucked. The TD throw by Randle El was ridiculous. It wasn't an out of blue play, hell people were saying there was going to be a Randle El throw at some point.

It was rather odd that during that regular season the Steelers were the most penalized team in the league and yet in that Super Bowl they had zero penalties for zero yards.

To be fair, the Cowboys were only penalized twice for 20 yards that game.

Ah, the '70s. When football players were allowed to play football.

Joey Porter was an overrated piece of shit that completely disappeared from relevance the very second he became a Dolphin. The Steelers made Porter look a lot better than he really was.

I was just a twirp when this game was played, but watched both Cowboys-Steelers Super Bowls in the 70's, cried my eyes out after the 2nd one lol. The Steelers were simply the better team. Great defense. On a side note, I'm digging that Avatar. Second star to the right, then straight on till morning.

More like your Steelers-hater contact lenses since they seem to be worn 24/7!

I can agree to an extent with this... Every PIT OLB is usually a bit "over-rated" because of the system they play in. DE's in PIT aren't pass rushers, they are gap fillers & blocker eaters. So OLB's are designed to be the playmakers of the defense. All you really have to do as an OLB is set the edge or get to the QB on designed blitzes. But I don't want to take anything away from the players themselves because not every 3-4 scheme is as successful as PIT's. Joey Porter was very fast and athletic. He did play behind one of the most underrated DE's in the league in Aaron Smith, who was probably one of the best DE's the Steelers have had in the past 20-30 years. So one could argue that Porter was overrated. I think Porter still had his moments in Miami, so to say he was overrated is a bit of a stretch for me. I think he played with a fire and intensity that not many players have/had. He was a great leader because of it.

He's our LB's coach now and he's having an impact according to reports.

Emmanuel Sanders will not miss Ben?

We'll see... He was injured early and often during his years in PIT. QB play doesn't help with that.
