I once met a guy who explained he was the third generation in his family preparing for the impending apocalypse. He was in his 50s.

I laughed when he told me.

So, if a guy isn't happy with the liberal hippies in Boston, the best place to find your like-minded kind is... Denver, Colorado?

erm... okaaaaaaaay

I didn't read the whole thread. Please let me know if there is anything else I should be snarky about.

If you think that liberal hippies in Boston are the big issue I suspect your just a cool aid drinking clone following the pack.

CO is actually one of the most free states in the USA. Strange that someone calls it one of the most free states in the USA aint it?

MA gun laws are out of control and it is almost a crime to have a gun in MA. While I do not like what TT is doing to the Bruins I can understand his mindset. If you have no knowledge and only read the CNN and MSN websites than I can understand that you believe that all is fine. I would suggest you venture on from those sites and start reading real news. Read about how Obama and the like wish to ban guns completely from citizens...Why do you think they want that? Oh maybe so the US people dont rise up and fight back and actually have weapons?

Basically do not comment on stuff you have no knowledge of. If you believe that all will always be fine in the US then I hope you are right. I prefer to be prepared because I believe that the Government will destroy itself at some point and leave this country in ruins. Of course you can stand in line at the bread line and pray that the bread will still be there when you get up close but I will be eating food and so far off the grid that nobody could ever find me or my family as well as a ton of other families that have been thinking this way. Call me radical? I call me prepared.

THAT is the arguement I often bring up to my conservative family members. I'm a conservative socially and a slight liberal fiscally. I'm a Christian, and so whenever it comes down to stuff like this, I go to the Bible. I go to what Jesus taught. And taking care of the sick, poor, widowed, fatherless, that's what he said to do. Christians need to stop ignoring that. While I do *partially* agree that the responsibility of that comes to the Church more than the government, I think as a Christian it is ALSO my responsibility to look at the candidate who best represents Christian values. When it comes to social issues, sure I'm not a fan of gay marriage, and I will never support in any sense support abortion, but those don't fuel my beliefs...it's a minor part. I can't STAND when Christians come out and say hateful things about homosexuals, because I believe that all sins are the same in the eyes of God, so I'm no better a person than...well, anyone. I'm not going to go out and support it, because I look to the Bible, but I'm not going to come out and hatefully speak down on them.

Also: I don't own a gun...but the fact that I can is comforting.

While I am a bit of a skeptic, I am always interested in alternative news sources. What do you recommend?

Agree. I can get a bit out of control on survival stuff. I will stop. I can understand that some do not see it my way. All good.

Let me say this on the subject.

During the height of people being scared of terrorism in the few years following 911, people went out and bought things like duct tape to seal windows and gas masks in case of chemical or biological attacks. They bought these most often in Western states, oddly enough, in places with very low density of population and extremely low likelihood to be the target of some small-scale terrorist attack. At the same time, those Western states have the lowest percentage of people that wear seat belts, something that actually can end your life on a day-to-day basis.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Hah, it's like my country folk friends. Drive insanely fast and no seatbelts, because they only pass cars on those back roads every so often. But, you know, trees? Those are fine.

I read a lot from both sides of the coin. I read the mainstream news - ABCNNMSNBCBS; some of the alternate mainstream - RT; and occasionally, some of the the alternative fringe - Rense, WRH, Alex Jones. I think they all have an agenda and bias so it's really tough to decipher what might really be the truth.

I firmly believe though, that for the most part, they all have their shit (some more than others), but I also believe they all have their truth; sometimes when the rest present a completely different perspective.

I guess that somewhere in the middle lies actual truth; maybe.

Haha!

My thoughts on everything is this: Do I think shit is actually going to go down that necessitates me having a gas mask and protective suit? No. Do I still have one just in case? Fuck yes. I keep condoms in my car for the same reasons.
