And as I post that, MSU gags at home against a garbage Minnesota team, back to the bubble we go!

Oregon has a good chance to go deep into the tourney. They are playing extremely well at the most perfect time of the year.

I like their team but wish they had some size down low to rebound

Connecticut had an rpi of 43 entering the tourney Last year. Some majors in that range include nc state, pitt, ole miss, texas, Ohio st, iowa, cincinnati, lsu.. seems like slim pickings

It was actually closer to low 20s.

NCAA College Basketball RPI Rankings (updated today)

If you look up 3/18/14.

So, the teams in that range would be all the teams from the Big East not named Villanova.

And in that link it says Uconn's wasn't 43, rather 23.

Yeah, I noticed that shortly after I posted the link (but too late to edit of course)

But the point still stands UK was in the teens and ended up with an 8 seed.

Despite the chatter that the RPI gets from the selection committee, they don't always just go by RPI. Sometime they deviate FAR from it. so while it looks like rmillia (and myself) were wrong about the UConn RPI heading into the tournament, you assertion as to why it had to be wrong was also off the mark.

Why Louisville and Kentucky are seeded too low, and why it matters - ESPN

Teams with RPI's in the 40's are generally teams that you start seeding at 9 and go from there.

In 2014 these teams were 40-50 in the RPI:
#40 Stanford - 10 seed
#41 Tennessee - Play In Game
#42 Dayton - 11 seed
#43 Providence - 11 seed(auto bid)
#44 ASU - 10 seed
#45 Oklahoma State - 9 seed
#46 Harvard - #12 seed(auto bid)
#47 Missouri - NIT
#48 Xavier - Play In Game
#49 Nebraska - 11 seed
#50 Minnesota - NIT

2013:
#40 LaSalle - Play In Game
#41 Temple - 9 seed
#42 Oklahoma - 10 seed
#43 Pittsburgh - 8 seed
#44 Boise State - Play In Game
#45 Iowa State - 10 seed
#46 Oregon - 12 seed(auto bid)
#47 Ole Miss - 12 seed(auto bid)
#48 Akron - 12 seed(auto bid)
#49 Uconn - Ineligible
#50 Cincinnati - 10 seed

So yeah, while there is the occasional team in the teens slotted as an 8/9, like I said if you have an RPI in the 40's you're rarely in the 7 range.

I will say on the occasions that a 40+ RPI team was given a 7 or better it was from a P5 conference(previous Big East included) So it has happened, it's just extremely rare, and Uconn didn't fit that profile.

Yeah not sure why I thought it was 43 not 23. 23 makes more sense

I think Lunardi might have SDSU around a 7 seed. They are a pretty scrappy pick.
