Connecticut had an rpi of 43 entering the tourney Last year. Some majors in that range include nc state, pitt, ole miss, texas, Ohio st, iowa, cincinnati, lsu.. seems like slim pickings
Kentucky entered the tournament with an RPI in the teens and was an 8 seed.

And in that link it says Uconn's wasn't 43, rather 23.

But the point still stands UK was in the teens and ended up with an 8 seed.
Despite the chatter that the RPI gets from the selection committee, they don't always just go by RPI. Sometime they deviate FAR from it. so while it looks like rmillia (and myself) were wrong about the UConn RPI heading into the tournament, you assertion as to why it had to be wrong was also off the mark.
