No. I am not dead. Let's just get that out of the way. I've had to adjust to no longer being a bum. It stinks. But I like money.

Anyway. I need help/suggestions. My parents are trying to cut back on some of their bills. Hence the awesome idea to no longer have satellite tv. They know I watch a lot of movies/tv online. So of course I was the nature person to come to on this subject. One slight issue. I don't know where to start.

My mother was talking about needing a blu-ray player to stream things. I believe she is talking about stuff like netflixs or something along those lines. She mentioned my dad would still want to watch his baseball games and what not.

I shouldn't be an issue to hook up a laptop or PC to the tv in the living room. I think this might be the best option for my father so he can still watch games and whatever. I've no idea how to get the picture onto the tv screen. But I can figure it out right?

As far as the tv in the bedroom (mom's) i've no idea what the best option is for her. If she goes the route of blu-ray i'm not sure she'll get all the options/shows she's looking for. It's also not the best place to attempt to use a laptop or pc. So I'm kinda at a loss as to what to suggest for her. I hope that made sense.

Suggestions, tips or general out bursts of your not dead?

depends on your computer / TV, but generally you would need an HDMI cable to hook the two up.

:D but as mentioned, both components have to be fairly new (with 2 or 3 yrs probably).
otherwise, you may need to have an extra step to get USB from comp into whatever your TV is looking for.

So in other words. This will end up giving me the urge to shoot something. I've been wanting to get out to the range anyway.

No idea what model the tv is. But i'm fairly sure it's not that new. It would require getting another computer. I do believe I might be woefully unprepared for this if they decide to go through with it.

Both the TV and computer should support VGA.

That's the same type of cable that's used to connect a PC to a monitor. If the TV is a flat screen of any type or brand it should have one of those.

The cables are pretty cheap too. I think you can get a 25ft one on Amazon for $10 or less.

In terms of services, if you hook the PC up to the TV, Hulu is one of your better (fully legal) options. For the other TV where you can't use a PC, I would suggest a PS3 instead of a standalone blu-ray. You pay a bit more for it, but by most accounts it's still one of the top BR players on the market and it's compatible with Hulu+ (fee), Netflix (fee), and a few other slightly less legal methods.

Your other option (for both TVs) would require a bit more tech-savyness, in which you could go for either a Boxee Box or a Roku player. Those will give you some free stuff and some pay (including NHL and MLB). This would eliminate the need for a PC or any other external hardware, because they are both a combined hardware/software combo.

does ps3 have espn3 on it yet like xbox?

No, that's a 360 exclusive, but not mentioned because I don't think it fits with their model since you have to pay for an XBOX Live Gold account which is another $60/year for content that is free if you use the PC.

And for all ESPN360 access you also have to be on one of the preferred broadband suppliers, which for the XBOX version of ESPN3 (I think) currently excludes Time Warner Cable and Bright House, which (I think) covers the Tampa area.

I should be taking notes. I'll take note of what model the tv is when I happen to be around it next. It is not a flat screen. Which i'm sensing could create issues. And there is really no good way to attempt to explain this to them. But I think i'm starting to get a general idea. Thank you all for that

And thank you elo. :)

oh..brighthouse does the Tampa area. But Brighthouse users can also access the "Watch ESPN" part of it anyway on the computer elminates the need for ESPN3.
