You forgot, "Remember how all that was involved got destroyed by the legal system and their lives were justifiably ruined?"

It is all about money. If you take away the money then it will desperately hamper the program badly as well and not completely destroy all of the other programs at the school.

Also, It is not about whether or not the football program, the fans, and/or the university can move on. Or at least it shouldn't be. It should be about whether or not the victims can move on. Justice will be served to the people that were involved in these horrible actions in a variety of ways.

I agree with you for the most part. The legal aspect is inevitable and don't think I'm not aware of it. That doesn't change my opinion that they need to shut down football operations for a minimum of one season.

I've discussed this with friends (lawyers) who have helped educate my opinion and I'm fully aware of the legal ramifications. A class action lawsuit has been mentioned. Though that would be less complicated, it doesn't always benefit the individual. This is most likely going to be individual lawsuit after individual lawsuit. It's gonna be messy. Reaaaalllly fucking messy.


I don't know if you saw it but here is the interview with NCAA prez Mark Emmert. He does a great job explaining the NCAA's view on it.

And hey, like you said even if they don't find anything involving sandusky punishable, every school's got dirt. And by every indication Joe Pa was a "win at all costs" type of guy. Penn St. football has been up in their ivory tower for decades and now they will be under the microscope. I highly doubt, scratch that, I'M POSITIVE they don't get away scott free. I guarantee a bowl ban or two and some scholarship reductions MINIMUM. Who knows, maybe even some vacated wins...

I see it as an institutional issue. Everything that happened (the coverup) was because of football. If Sandusky was a geology professor would the administration have covered this up for years and years? I think we could probably all agree the answer is no.

Hammer needs to drop because every coach/president/chancellor/board of trustees everywhere needs to know that a coverup of this magnitude is never going to be worth the cost.

A lot of my reaction is anger, and I can admit there's a need to reserve judgement until everything comes out. I suspect its going to only get worse though.

Yeah I saw that interview. Emmett has to say anything to make himself and the NCAA look good. Plus since there will be an NCAA investigation he can't sit there and rule out any punishment before the investigation really even gets started.

I definitely think there will be some punishment. They will dig until they find something to punish them for. Bowl ban, TV money, stuff like that. Death Penalty is something that they will really have to find something to drop that hammer in my opinion.

I don't necessarily agree with framing this around the Catholic Church and priests, but if we are I'd say every priest could be considered a head coach.

I'd be o.k. if Rome were occupied, all their assets seized, the current pope imprisoned, but that's not going to happen.

I brought arguing church into it for 2 reasons.

1. You changed Sandusky's profession to a professor for an analogy so I did the same.

2. I figured it would get the religious freak's panties in a bunch.
