I believe Choo just peed his pants.

Cano = $25 & 10 years
Ellsbury = $22 & 7 years
McCann = $17 & 5 years
Granderson = $15 & 4 years

What will Shin-Soo get?

If Choo would sign a 5 year 80 million dollar deal -- the Tigers would sign him immediately. With the absolutely absurd numbers being throw around this off season. I'm guessing it will take 20 million a year to sign Choo.

I just hope the Tigers don't go overboard because of the crazy numbers being thrown around, as the rumor is he is the #1 target. I have a feeling though, after the Yankees just lost out on Cano, leaving a huge hole in their lineup -- they are going to make a crazy offer to Choo that no one can match.

The Dodgers would kindly ask you to change the word CAN above with the word WILL.

Thank you.

Choo's value is lower because he struggles vs LHP and played poor defense. Though he definitely won't be a CF anywhere.

Choo will get paid. My guess he is going to get a 6 or 7 year deal for 100 million.

Guys became FA in a year clubs got a little money to spend and it burns a hole in their pockets.

Thank-God Scherzer isn't a FA this year.

I wonder if Clayton Kershaw has put a down payment on an Island yet?

Very true. I just believe the Yankees are going to have a knee jerk reaction to Cano leaving and give Choo an over the top contract.

I hope I'm wrong, as I would LOVE to see Choo in a Tigers uniform and playing LF, but after the contracts that have been signed -- I don't see a chance in hell of him getting less than 19 or 20 million a year over a 5-6 year contract. If Granderson is getting 15 million a year and he hasn't hit over .250 but once in the past 6 years and he is 32 -- Choo is sitting back laughing as his price continues to go up and up.

I disagree. Just with his value being any lower right now this minute than before. In a free market economy, it's all about supply and demand. And, right now, he is a top 5 free agent, maybe top 3. As such, he will be paid top dollar by someone, probably $ 10 mil per.

Not quite yet, as he has yet to make "# 1 MLB pitcher money" yet. Next contract though, for sure.

I read an article where they compared the numbers for Ellsbury and Choo over the last 5 years and Choo was the more productive hitter having a higher OPS+ and a much higher OBP. Choo also had like 50 OF assists in the last 5 years.

I know Ellsbury has more speed and more range defensively, but how much does that equate in salary per year? I mean, Choo is coming off a season where he had a .423 OBP. That is sick. He will hit you 15-20 hrs and steal 15-20 bases, so he isn't slow.

you think Choo will only get 10 million per year? no chance. bare minimum is 16 million per and my guess when the dust settles, he will get 19-20 million per year.

My bad. That was supposed to read $ 10 + mil per year, going on his last contract paying him $ 7,375 mil last year.

Don't get me wrong, he'll still get paid. His overall numbers were great. Hes not a CFer though, he will be better served as a corner OFer. I would like to see him out in RF for the Yankees. .423 OBP is no joke.

I said a week ago that I'd like to see the Tigers offer Choo 5 years at about $18-$19 mill a season, with a team option sixth year. Not sure if he'd go for that (I heard he wants 6 years & $120 mill total), but that's what I think he's worth.

The more I see the numbers thrown around here, and, in respect to my initial though of what he may end up with, I am starting to feel like 100% total crap.

Why?

In my life, I am lucky, LUCKY I TELL YOU, to get a 1% raise in a year. However, if you look at what he made this year, and the numbers going on around here, I am seeing a MINIMUM raise for him of 50%, and maybe well more.

What will he get? Who knows? You also forgot Hunter Pence's deal. That's part of the equation as well. Ellsbury is obviously the outlier. His contract is truly absurd and reset the market for Cano. He was probably worth 5/90 like Pence got, which would make Choo worth roughly 5/100.

He played poor defense in CF because he's not a CF and the Reds played him out of position. Not his fault. He's a very good defensive RF.
