The Hockey News scouting report on Stanton:

Assets: Is plenty physical and has the projectable size to match. Also moves the puck out of trouble decently.

Flaws: Needs to add even more bulk to his 6-2 frame in order to withstand playing a physical style at the highest level.

Career Potential: Physical depth defenseman with a little upside.

He was the last cut Chicago made, apparently close to making the Hawks.
