In the regular season, he was good enough to beat the '85 Bears. However, in the post-season, he couldn't beat the '85 Patriots - at home - in Miami - and was badly outplayed by the great Tony Eason. Zero rings at every level. Stats don't lie. Check out his performances in all the Dolphins' post-season losses. No defense? He was drafted by a team that was just in the Super Bowl. Do you think David Woodley's passing got them there or was it the Killer B's defense?

No running game? Another myth. Plenty of examples of teams that won a Super Bowl with far less of a running game than Marino had in Miami. What was the excuse at Pitt? Bobby Bowden said that Pitt's 1980 team was the greatest college football team he ever saw. Maybe check how Marino played in big games in college.

My old man used to say Pitt could have beat the Steelers one year in the early 80s, which is likely an exaggeration. But I was like 8 or 10, so what do I know?

No college team would beat a pro team, but that Pitt team was loaded. That Pitt team had 23 future NFL starters on it. All five of Pitt’s defensive line and the entire offensive line started in the NFL and what a great offensive line protecting Marino giving him time to eat Primanti sandwiches in the pocket: Jimbo Covert, Mark May, Russ Grimm, Rob Fada and Ron Sams. Three defensive backs started in the NFL as well as two of Pitt’s wide receivers, the fullback, the kicker and five other players that didn’t even start at Pitt.

Hmmm. I think OSU would beat the Jaguars or the Titans. Those teams were horrible.
It would be interesting to see it unfold but I just don’t see it.

From an offensive and defensive line standpoint, even the worst NFL team would dominate the trenches and I don’t think it would be particularly close.

The talent gap is just too big, about what… two or three whole college teams worth of players make it to the NFL through the draft?

Too many mismatches for an NFL team playing a college one.

IMO, of course.

If Elo means anything, 84 and 85 were his only championship level teams. I do think you can argue that he should have gotten to the SB in 85 but he still should've lost to the Bears if that happened. According to Profootballreference, they think the 84 Niners is the 4th best team in the history of football and the 85 Bears is the 2nd best team in the history of football.

I see no issue with Marino's legacy. Unless you think he is the GOAT but I rarely see that anymore.

Did Marino sleep with your wife multiple times or was it just the one time?

Put me down for one then. To this day Marino is still the best thrower of the football I have ever seen.

Well he did knock up a woman in New York and she had his baby meanwhile Marino's lovely wife was at home taking care of his kids, one of them a special needs child. Classy guy.

No question. I might take Mahomes over him by a touch because of the way he can run as well as throw, but nobody slung it better than Dan that I've seen, which dates back to Staubach and Bradshaw

He sure threw some beautiful interceptions in big games.
