NFL.com is reporting that Gary Kubiak is coming back to the Broncos in a scouting role. He'll be focused on scouting offensive personnel, while Tom Heckert will remain focused on the defense. I like the idea of Kubes back in the building and working for the Broncos.

I think this is a great fit for him and the Broncos. When he was with the Broncos back in the mid-90's it was said that Shanahan would let Kubiak do some of the late round picks and he was the one that found Terrell Davis. So I'm happy to have his eye for talent being a voice for the Broncos.

I love Kubes. I'm very glad to see him work with the Broncos. Kubiak is part of the essence of what a Denver Bronco fan feels connects them to the team. Nice move by John Elway. Elway did dump Kubes in the most gentile manner possible.

Plus now we are Super Bowl contenders again. The combo of Elway and Kubiak has been present for all 3 Super Bowl victories.

It's whatever. Glad he is still around for his sake. Don't think it will mean much for us as a team though.

I don't think Kubiak will materially change Denver's chances for success but he's a Bronco and always will be, so it's good to have him aboard.

This is the perfect job for a guy that said he wants to continue to be around football. He can mostly work from his home in Houston and it doesn't come with the pressures of being a head coach. The Elway/Kubiak combo marches on!

You never know what transpires behind the " retire " bit. Most of the time, the " retirement " announcement has conflict of interest or ? attached to it. Genuine respect/ /friendship/health/burnout is certainly viable as well in this one though. Odds are though, Kubiak wanted to trade Lynch and that was the deal breaker. :)

I think the retirement was a bit of a strain but obviously not enough to ruin the friendship. Kubiak's biggest issue to me beyond health was that of his loyalty to his staff. Which hey that is a good thing to have loyalty but it was reaching a point it was hurting the team. We all know Dennison was nowhere near a good OC and the OL was showing 0 improvement over the couple of years they were here.

It'd be interesting to see Kubes become something of a head of scouting, or move into the front office.

Makes me wonder if the grooming of Elway's replacement has begun...

Broncos lost a huge piece of the scouting department when they let what's his name go to the 49ers. To me this move was to counter that a bit. Kubiak in the past has shown some ability in scouting players. He was the one that chose to draft Davis way back when so I don't think this type of move is just a dog and pony type show. Elway doesn't make those kind of decisions. He hires people he thinks can help. And yeah maybe could be grooming him as his health gets better for a big role with the team. I'm sure Elway is looking to transition to a COO type position with the team.

It's a good way to say Thanks Kubes you are always a Bronco and we want you part of this team, but we don't want the pressure of you having to do anything..

Nice appreciation by the team.

A trusted source with a scout's eye for Elway.

LOL - when you get your first scouting job - I'll remind you of the job description you give Kubes here.

Maybe I am incorrect, but scouting the offense is different then scouring NFL draft prospects, no?

He is an advisor, and yeah I am not downplaying it, but I am just thinking he isn't going to have a lot of say. "advisor" role, so who knows how much he will be involved. Seems like a lot of retired people get this role to stick around, be part of the team but not really do much. Jimmy Johnson was a "draft advisor", for Tampa Bay near the end of his career but really didn't do much.

I am glad he is around, I am just saying it feels like more like a "Hey, we want to see your face around here still my good friend", be part of our team and we will see you around so you still are involved in someway. I am glad he got it.

I think John Elway's dad had this title with the Broncos for awhile.

That sounds right. I know he had some role similar.

Remember when his dad was a coach of one of the NFL Europe teams?

Yes - though, I haven't thought about NFL Europe in a long time it seems.
