Gray in the 8th and Heaney in the 9th?
Those two are just as capable as anyone else we have in the pen at throwing the ball all over the place. I just am not sure Gray would handle it well. Heaney I am all for giving it a go. Stratton has been good 90% of the time so don't take just what happened tonight and throw everything else he has done out the window.

I’d still sign Stratton For the next couple of years.
The rest is crazy

No, nothing against Stratton. Just throwing ideas out.

Leiter might be the starter for Round Rock today.

When I see it more than 3 times I will agree with you. 1 time is great but not a sell point
I am fine with seeing him twice more.

I will add, no one else on the club has sold me they can close games. It's a matter of comparison.

From Scott Lucas:

Cole WInn had a nice finish to a really tough year. Winn was removed from the rotation in mid-June and has performed better, if erratically, since then:

Through 6/14: 8.74 ERA, .307/.439/.526 opposing line, 140 OPS+, 19% BB/HBP rate, 19% SO rate.
After 6/14: 5.98 ERA, .254/.360/.406, 91 OPS+, 14% BB/HBP, 20% SO.

The league-average line for Round Rock is .264/.361/.445. How does Winn's 91 OPS+ after 6/14 square with a 5.98 ERA? His outings were all over the map. He had five appearances covering 10.1 innings with 25 runs allowed. In the other appearances totaling 45.1 innings, he allowed only 13 runs.

Winn is on the 40-man roster, and Texas has to decide what, if anything, to do about that. I've always been of the belief that he's a starter, and transitioning to modern-day relief isn't a given. Winn can touch 97 and hit 94-95 consistently, but he doesn't really have a dominant pitch. He needs a full, harmonious arsenal. Whatever the role, control and command must improve.

I would expect Heaney to get more relief work the rest of the way. He got the 8th. Next step is the 9th

Re Gray I have no idea but if he is not going to start would have to think he gets some innings in relief especially since he is a RHP on squad

I think we have to make adjustments to the pen to give us a better shot to make the playoffs.
Chapman is not the solution for the 9th and surely would like additional options than LeClerc who at times is very hittable.
Opening up the possibility for Heaney and even Gray I have to think is under consideration

At this point it is time to throw them into the fire as is the practice in the playoffs where Starters often become relief pitchers. Better options needed

Don’t think we have anyone on the present bullpen that will ever be a quality closer. No one including Chapman

I understand what y’all are saying but the idea of trying them at closer with a possible playoff spot hanging on it just makes me uncomfortable. It’s bad when they roll out Chapman or Smith or Leclerc but don’t think my guts would want to see Heaney or Gray coming out. He’ll probably rather see Bradford trying it. He has better control

Considering all that we have, Heaney is about as good as we have. Gray is a different beast.

Have to think it is long shot to make noise in the playoffs
So it is time to play our long shots
Nothing ventured nothing gained
We were one foot from a tie game with Chapman who has blown it a lot for us in the 9th

I even trust LeClerc ahead of Chapman in the 9th

I understand because I feel the same way, but about the guys we have been running out there. I am ready to try something new just in case because I an scared to death for Smith and Chapman to show up in the last 2 innings.
