After reading the official team statement on the situation involving Jamison Crowder, I tried to remember what was actually stated. Try it yourself and you'll soon realize that remembering it in a sea of generic sports statements it lines up as just another legally crafted utterance that does nothing to enhance the organization.
Here are the reasons why they should have issued a different statement:
1. Free agency.......Players take note of organizations that back their employees.
2. Organizational image....at a time where they could use a PR boost, they passed.
3. Team morale......instinct says keep your distance, decency insists on supporting the man.
4. Establish precedence......break the mold and create the model for others to follow.
Here's just one example of the statement they should have issued:
"We are well aware of the allegations against Jamison Crowder and will continue to assist the league in its investigation of this matter. In the meantime we believe that it's unfair to support the rights of the accuser and not those of the accused. Until there are valid legal reasons to disqualify him from pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming an NFL player Jamison Crowder is still part of this organization."
