Best guy for the job is not always the 4 or 5* guy. Mariota, Manzel, Cousins, Foles, Wilson, Lindley Tannehill, Kaepernick, Rodgers, Ryan, Flacco, Bradford and on and on.

So, you missed the second part of that post?

Just because some 2*'s can have better careers than some 4*'s, doesn't mean you still don't want as many of the latter as you can find.

By your logic then why even bother offering 4*'s?

In the previous three years before Mariota . the three he played and the two since. How many QB's have gone to Oregon for any length of time and how many of them are anything close to Mariota? Since mariota was a 3* and all of them were at least 3s you should have a Wilson and a Kapernick and a Rodgers and on and on since all it takes is a 3* right . But you don't.

USC had Palmer Lienart, Booty. Sanchez , Barkley, Kessler. All either 5s or high 4s. All except Booty drafted. Lienart, Sanchez Palmer all first round. See the difference?
Oops. All drafted. Booty was a fifth round.
Adams the guy who started ahead of all the QBs Oregon recruited didnt even get drafted.

I dont dwell on the players who dont go to Oregon or the what ifs. I would rather focus on who is there. Would I want Oregon to have 4 and 5 star guys? sure and right now there is a 4* guy who is one of the leading candidates for the starting spot. there are some 3* guys behind him. will they pan out? will they even get a chance? who knows. will someone com in for the class of 17, 18, 19 and win out maybe maybe not. too much what if and maybe for me.

you compared what Oregon has had and what USC has had. No one has made an Oregon vs USC comparison. because Oregon fans know the history of the 2 schools. Oregon just got their first Heisman USC has more than I can count on 1 hand. the number of players in the NFL from the 2 schools isnt compareable. Oregon in their history might have the same as actives from USC. the history of the 2 schools isnt a secret. so why compare a string of QBS?

for the 3rd time now. No they weren't confident in Lockie after what he did last year. and no they werent confident in a walk on. and no they werent confident in red shirt freshman coming off injury who is still in contention anyway. an no they werent confident in a true freshman who is also in contention even if he is currently 3rd. still doesnt mean Oregon doesnt have a player that can step up.

My point is theres a reason teams try harder to get 5 and 4 star QBs. You make it sound like Oregon wouldn't want one. I pointed out the success rate is most likely higher the higher rated they are. Yes they dont all pan out but you will wait another 60 years to find some low 3* that turns out to be Mariota. Or you can get Deshaun Watson as the #1 dual threat QB . How did that turn out for Clemson?

Because it shows the miss rate for 5-4 star QBs is lower than it is for 3 stars.
