Kind of a tough day for the Pac if you concern yourself with perceived conference strength. Two top 25 teams lose to G5 teams, and big bad USC narrowly escapes Jexas.
I was thinking the same thing. It's going to make things even tougher if UW nearly runs the table save that one unexpected loss.

It is what it is. Was gonna be expected regardless. If things work out for us again it would have been the out of conference schedule if the conference was looking great, now it will be this. Never mind that a team like Penn State didn't play anyone out of conference and the Big 10 didn't exactly set themselves apart as the monster conference they were supposed to be in out of conference games.

There's a long way to go, but as of right now I'd bet UW is gonna have to run the table for a playoff spot.

Just got back from Husky stadium where I saw YOUR all time conference punt return for a TD leader Dante fucking Pettis go off.

First things first, @Vitamike I do believe I was correct and Browning only played the first series in the 3rd quarter and most of the rest of the first string on both sides was out after that. And no I don't regret not taking a bet over such things. Just knowing I was right is more than enough. :thumb:

@socaljim242 you ready to pump the brakes a bit yet on all that drum beating you were doing after downing Stanford last week? Holy shit does that all look 180 degrees different one week later or what?

@SUBuddha da fuq happened man? :noidea: I mean obviously I didn't get to see any of the games, but you lost to who? :L Wow. Damn man. Like really.

Well in all fairness you were wrong about UW not running up the score, and that was part of your stipulation that peaked my interest about Browning playing more than a series in the 3rd. Certainly not part of the vCash bet I laid out though.

Doubt we run up the score though. They will play a LOT of youth in this game. Might see some before the end of the first half. Doubt Browning plays more than a series in the 3rd quarter.

Either way, you were still right, but it was all the way up to the threshold of the prop bet, so the line was pretty solid either way, except for your stipulation. In that series Browning and company goes 70 yards in 2 plays for a TD going up 48-7 over Fresno State, if they were looking to play that youth, it's a pretty safe bet up 41-7 just to start Browning's backup out of the half, then again it's always good to get your starter out there to see how he performs after the half time period.

A solid win for UW, and good for them Dawgs to match a similar trouncing as Bama the week prior.

Glad you had a good time Wiz! :suds:

13 games with 300 plus yards, considering the number of games he's played in, that an accomplishment.

Plus he has had some record streaks of attempts without an interception.

Individual accomplishments are cool and all, but Jerome Harrison and Connor Halliday never got so much love and their individual accomplishment massively dwarf anything individual accomplishment Rosen has done. Just guess I'd get the love for him if he, makes the team better isn't exactly the phrase, but makes his team better than they are.

ASU is bad beyond recovery. The defense is just broken and undermanned. There are IMO 4 legitimate NFL caliber players on it for the last 2 years and they are and will continue to be among the worst units in all of college football almost exclusively because of coaching. There is zero depth. The fact that JoJo Wicker and Christian Sam might not make the NFL because of the shit bag coaches is a travesty.

On the bright side, we'll be looking for a new coach. We are now 1-8 over our last 9 games and the single win is a 1 score home victory over New Mexico St. All of Graham's good will from the hot start is gone- His system does not work in the long term once adjustments have been made. Had he been a better developer of personnel, this would be a whole different story. His strategy is fine. He's not a bad coach, but he stuck with 2 or 3 really, really bad assistants for far too long while his best and brightest left for better jobs. I hope he does well at his next job and hope he learns from this so his next trip to the big boy schools is more productive. He'll be back if he wants to be- Just not at ASU.

Really, the Todd Graham ASU experience has been a good lesson for people in management positions. I know there are several of us out there in some form of executive role, and this has been a nice education on how not to handle temporary success. We all know there are people who bring a lot more to the table than the average employee. They're driven and ambitious and make your company or division of the corporation work because they're just really good at what they do. Inevitably they want more and move on.

Success propped up by them doesn't mean the rest of your realm is in good condition. In fact, during the "good times", it might be even more important to search and root out the spots of weakness, because those are the times you can easily weather significant change. So lesson learned- Just because you've got a great year on the books doesn't mean you shouldn't be trying to cycle out your dead weight for talent.

Vita, I believe UW had 14 of it's points off of a pick 6 and a punt return. We are splitting hairs here, but they backed off the dogs as early as I figured they would. I never said they would only be at 28 or something. I just wouldn't have been surprised if they didn't cover that wild spread. Browning came out to open the 3rd quarter and scored a TD and that was the last of the scoring. The second unit was kind of ugly, but that's what second units do.

I figured Browning would still be in for the first series of the 3rd because it keeps them in their half time routine. The only way I would have imagined them keeping starters in past that point would have been injury related issues that kept the score too low to do so.

Oh, and at least I actually remember this game. So there's that. Didn't get falling down drunk, just good and buzzed so I'm dialed in for the conference schedule. :thumb:

Pitt out of conference is stronger for Penn State than Rutgers was for Washington.

Without consistent QB play, they won't contend for the PAC 12 North title. They'll still probably end up in a bowl game.

What a game last night. Plenty of good bad and ugly. WR drops and head scratching play calling at the top of the list. If the recivers make a few of those catches USC is up three scores by the mid second quarter and its not a competitive game. The run blocking was pretty bad. Gotta hand it to Texas they picked their poison. The attacked the line and bet the Wrs wouldnt produce and they bet right. Eventually Burnett did make his impact and that made the difference . The walk on kicker shinned. I think hes why USC didnt kick field goals early but at the end they had no choice. Definitely dont look like a top ten team right now. But got the win. Lotta heart in those Texas boys. They played hard.

Yeah, I think there were a few factors at play. The biggest factor is, Texas has a good team with a real good defense and they have a coach who seems to know how to prepare an unranked team to beat a ranked opponent (he was 5-0 going into this one). Also, I think there was little bit of letdown from the Stanford game and maybe some guys got to believing their own press clippings.

Certainly not the best performance, but it could have been a lot worse. We could be sitting at 2-1 instead of 3-0.

This was actually a perfect game for the coaches. They won the game, but still have plenty to yell at the players about.

Naw, that's not how college football works.

I was on record all off season as not buying into the Stanford love so many had because I kept asking about their QB play and where all of their production under McCaffrey was going to come from now.

Stanford doesn't "suck" by any stretch, but I viewed them as maybe 3rd in the north. There is too much size and talent on that squad to not do some serious damage in conference play.

@Vitamike I see what you were trying to say about our game. Wasn't making sense to me last night, but I was tired and maybe just a bit still buzzed.

Our original conversation happened because I wasn't liking taking UW vs the rather large spread and my comment was I didn't see them running up the score and would have scrubs in pretty much the whole second half.

How that typically works is you get a reasonably comfortable lead and switch to your 2nd and 3rd string units, but the other team still keeps in their 1's. You end up giving up a few cheap scores with those backups and end up not covering.

In this game UW didn't score a single point with the backups in and they gave up 3 field goals during that time making the end score seem much more close than it otherwise would have.

The risk of ending up well under the spread was fairly high which is why I wouldn't touch that game in the vbookie.

Like I said, he has two nice runs. Also got stuffed on a 4th and 1 and pretty much every other run. If we only give up two good runs against Stanford, $C and UW we will be fine.

UW can't run for shit right now. If you believe your team will win simply keeping the run game down, you aren't paying any attention. Better know where #8 is at all times and have a plan for dealing with the rest of the pass game while also double teaming him.
