I'm sure McCarver still has nightmares about facing guys like Marichal, and he probably never faced Guidry. So he's was going for the "enchanter" comparison more than anything else.
The comparison certainly makes more sense to me now. Thanks. I will call Tim McCarver stupid for other reasons, of which there are definitely many. Also true that he knows more about baseball than I could ever hope to fathom, and I'm with you on wishing he wouldn't commentate to the lowest common denominator. Part of the social aspect of watching a sporting event is explaining the jargon to casual fans. Plus, with google at everyone's finger tips, who is ever really in the dark when it comes to any foreign sayings or terms?
