yay or nay?

I thought the Opening Night with the single game was OK. Then they started expanding it, regular season games in other countries, multiple day games the day before OD, etc. It's very anti-climatic.

That year they played in Australia a few days before the season started was just retarded. I don't mind it is year.

I wish Opening Day for all teams was tomorrow. Waiting all offseason for the next Braves season and like always they play an afternoon game while I'm gonna be in Augusta working and staying God knows where due to Masters week, and then an off day on Tuesday.

Fuck that shit.

Not to mention we have a brand new ball park and we only play 7 home games the entire month of April.

I already got tix for 5/25 vs PIT. I hope to go to one before that, though.

Unfortunately, my first game at Suntrust will be Georgia playing Georgia Tech unless something comes up between now and then. I'm working out of town for the foreseeable future, so weekend games are my only option for at least a couple months, and I'm thinking those will be a hard ticket to get.

Which is kind of a shame. I was in attendance for the first game at Turner Field as a kid, and I was there for the last game their last year. Would have loved to have been there for the first game at Suntrust, but I was too slow to the draw.

I was at Jose Fernandez's last ever road start, 9/14 in ATL. That was a fun one. But I also went to another one of his starts on 7/2 in ATL, which was one of the worst starts of his career. (9 R, 6 ER, 5.2 IP, 2 HR)

I liked it when they always had the Reds open the season. Nice nod to history. I don't know why they stopped that tradition.

I am OK with their only being a few games today. I am DVRing all of them and I am to try to watch them all.

That sounds like a pretty cool game to see. When is that?

May the 9th. Georgia's baseball team is pretty pitiful these days though. Seems like forever ago when they lost to Fresno State in the CWS Finals, and they haven't been relevant since.

Either it's opening day or it's Opening Day. Don't open the season before the season opens.
The tradition of the Reds (and once upon a time in the AL, the Senators) opening the season is time-honored but I doubt anybody under the age of 60 even knows why. Either way, I don't think Cincy fans mind. OD in Cincy is a Holiday (capital H on that) and the records going into Monday are, for them, 0-0. (Later? er .... never mind on that, OK?)
It's a global sport, which was what we really always wanted, and the rosters reflect that. As to where the season opens, ... meh ... just watch your own favorite team.

Capture.PNG OD at old Crosley (photo says it's 1957 ...) I remember they had overflow fans standing on the terrace in the outfield. The terrace was a slope that served as a "warning track" ... and any ball that went in there was a GR double. They only did this for opening day but Crosley held 29,000 ... it could have held 192,000 and it would have been filled. Average Reds crowd in those days was about 5,000 so it would have been a major challenge.

My thoughts exactly.

Can we just make it a rule that the first game of the season can't be played at Tropicana Field?
