Let's say we offer him the 14, and team B offers 2/19-20. Does he bolt? Do the Rangers up the offer?

Well, let's take everything into account. Colby's getting older and he's had his share of medical issues. He made a career-high $4m in 2015. So 2/16 means he's doubled his highest one-season salary and he's getting it for two seasons. As a fan, I think that's a fair shake. If some team comes in and offers 2/20, I don't think the Rangers should go that high, and I have no ill-will towards Colby if he takes that.

As long as the Rangers make a respectable offer, even if he turns it down, what can you do. The plan is for him to be the #5 guy in the rotation, and he can be replaced. Obviously I want him here, but if he can get a better deal, then good for him.

That's about as succinct as it gets there. And I think you hit the nail right on the head.

Something tells me we can't option him any more, but I don't know that.

I am thinking Giminez signed a combo MLB and MILB contract that may allow it. Good question. Do not know for sure

Our line may start and end fairly close to this. But the market may make it damn near impossible for him to "at least" consider the offers, regardless of how much he wants to stay here.

Let's say we offer him the 14, and team B offers 2/19-20. Does he bolt? Do the Rangers up the offer? Or how about this, the Rangers offer him 9.5 next season and a $ 4.5 mil player option for 2017?

don't see us coming close to 2 years 14M. it could happen but not likely

I wonder how much we would have to offer Colby before it would force us to make a cost cutting move to afford him. I haven't looked at estimated total salary amounts lately so I have no idea.

I should know the answers to this but I don't. So someone help me out.

How many games does a player have to play/be on a roster in order to count as one year of ML service? And (2) How many years of service counts as fully vested?

I don't think he has options left.

Did they send that "request" via the North Pole?
Those kinds of trades are only for teams on the brink of greatness. Let's hope Houston feels they are on the brink and hands over tons of young talent for one guy. The D'Backs just gave up a shit ton for Wade Miley of all people. Please Astros get desperate.

TR Sullivan says the Rangers are looking to extend Beltre. That isn't surprising.
