Let's say we offer him the 14, and team B offers 2/19-20. Does he bolt? Do the Rangers up the offer?
Well, let's take everything into account. Colby's getting older and he's had his share of medical issues. He made a career-high $4m in 2015. So 2/16 means he's doubled his highest one-season salary and he's getting it for two seasons. As a fan, I think that's a fair shake. If some team comes in and offers 2/20, I don't think the Rangers should go that high, and I have no ill-will towards Colby if he takes that.
As long as the Rangers make a respectable offer, even if he turns it down, what can you do. The plan is for him to be the #5 guy in the rotation, and he can be replaced. Obviously I want him here, but if he can get a better deal, then good for him.
