Petralli....now there's a name I had completely forgotten.

I don't really have a problem with Chirinos being our front line catcher. It seems he's getting better in all facets, and hopefully he can be a 130 game catcher for us next year; years to come actually.

Since we've got Gimenez signed, can we option him to AAA as an emergency call-up?
Something tells me we can't option him any more, but I don't know that.

Man it would be exciting to see what JD could do, if they'd just expand the budget a little more. Need another T/MORP (not sure how Derek will pitch this year) and Big RH bat
I just wish somehow we could spend relative to what others are spending and to what our market size is. Why our revenue won't allow us to have a $160 million budget like some teams in markets smaller than ours have is beyond me. Either those teams are spending well beyond what they should or we have poor revenue streams compared to others. Or maybe this ownership group used to much debt to purchase the team and they are paying that off. Either way I thought when these guys purchased the team that we would compete in spending with most teams not named the Yankees or the Dodgers. It makes me dislike the Fielder and Choo acquisitions even more because those have really hamstrung us it seems.

A note from Jamey Newberg's report this morning.

Daniels tells Grant that the Rangers are “unsure on Cliff Lee’s medicals” and that he “might be out of our price range.” Wilson hears that the club has “too many concerns about [Lee’s] elbow to bring back the lefthander on a one-year deal.”

Remember that the next time you hear someone say "there is no such thing as a bad one year contract".

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that.
I have. I heard it a few weeks back by someone on a national level and I have read it on local boards in the past. If I am not mistaken I first read it when some of us were complaining about the Berkman signing a few years back.

I thought the Webb deal was a terrific risk/reward signing. At the time, prices were not so outlandish, and his upside was worth the risk IMO.

But I had not clue whatsoever why on earth we signed Berkman. That guy was dead-man walking before he ever got here.

Ok so I half-heartedly follow Rangers prospects and know jack squat about prospects on other teams, but I'm hearing that this D-Backs/Braves trade is on par with the Herschel Walker trade the Cowboys made, with the Braves being the Cowboys. First time a #1 draft pick has been traded.

Sometimes it is important to realize you need to be a seller and therefore a rebuilder. The Cowboys did it with Hershel and the Rangers did it with Teixeira. Neither franchise has had the guts to do it again though and both might be better off if they had.

The Tickets next segment is going to discuss this very thing.

I didn't get to hear it, but I can pretty much imagine what Norm would say. I have had some email discussions with him quite a few times in the past about the subject of the Rangers budget size.

Without being critical, he just made the observation you've made....."the cost of business has gone up substantially." And he made note how the Rangers have done a lot of bottom feeding in the past.

He also asked, "seeing what Chris Young got in KC, would Colby Lewis settle for anything less than this?"

$11m for 2 years? Surely the Rangers aren't that stingy.

I can't imagine he won't get more than this. And perhaps considerable more than this.

I would think the line starts at 2/14.

Our line may start and end fairly close to this. But the market may make it damn near impossible for him to "at least" consider the offers, regardless of how much he wants to stay here.

Let's say we offer him the 14, and team B offers 2/19-20. Does he bolt? Do the Rangers up the offer? Or how about this, the Rangers offer him 9.5 next season and a $ 4.5 mil player option for 2017?
