But you know, don't let facts get in the way of your narrative, Bennie.
I don't choose to ignore facts Romeo. I don't comment based on emotion without having a reason for my opinions. Those reasons aren't based on whims and emotions. Are they based on opinions of how I understand things? Certainly. And so is everyone else's comments on here. You sometimes have selective rebukes and use comments like "you have no idea how those things work". The same thing could be said about a lot of other things I write and others write. You don't remind me that I have no idea about the inner workings of the team when I am in agreement with you. You only act that way when you are in disagreement even though things you might agree with me on could be thought of in the same way.

When it comes down to it we guys on here have just as much right to form an opinion about finances as we do about a lot of other subjects and we have just as much knowledge to form those opinions. It is an incomplete knowledge of course, but so is the knowledge we have that allows us to have opinions about other subjects regarding the team.

You need to be forthright and approach these things as an honest disagreement. Instead, you often choose to say things like I mentioned above when you disagree. Why do you think you have to pull out the "you can't possibly know what is going on" argument when you disagree. Just say "I don't think you are right" and move on. I used to hear the same things from the Wash apologists when I made disparaging comments about Wash's managing. According to them I had no idea how things happen in the clubhouse or what things or going on behind the scenes so I can't know what I am talking about. It gets a little old after awhile.

So we disagree about the rigidity of the budget during these past three offseasons. Big deal. I think I have my reasons for what I believe and I assume you do as well. But, to imply that I am purposely avoiding or ignoring facts just to make a point is not right at all. I don't do that in my personal dealings with folks in person or in cyberspace.

The funny thing is when this offseason first started I had hopes this one would be different and I offered my opinions on what I thought they should spend and you rebuked me for thinking they should spend more. Then after a few comments have come out from JD I have taken the opinion that things aren't going to change and that the budget will stay close to the same and you don't like that either. That really makes it seem that you just want to be contrary.

  • The Orioles are the beneficiaries of the Denard Span signing. As one of the few teams with money and a pressing need in the outfield, they have leverage in talks with players like Justin Upton. Olney is not the first to wonder if Upton would sign a pillow contract to play with the Orioles. The Rangers are another team interested in Upton on a one-year contract.
Dexter Fowler’s market has been slow to develop, writes Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago. The center fielder is coming off his best season to date, although his OBP declined below his career average. Among contenders, Levine figures that only the Rangers, Mariners, Indians, White Sox, and Cubs are a fit (he also lists the Nationals, but the Ben Revere trade likely nullifies that pick).

Lack of money to spend isn't keeping the Rangers out of the rumor mill
Yeah, it hasn't the past three offseason. It was especially bad the past two offseasons. Every big money free agent had the Rangers name attached to rumors about them it seemed in the past. This year some of that has eased up. They are wrong so many times, but it is those rumors that keep us talking baseball in these cold months so bring on the rumors.

When Cruz was looking for a one year deal a few years back we couldn't seem to find the money for him and I am sure Upton will get more than Cruz got that year. We shall see.

We did net Ortiz by the non signing though

Except I remember hearing the Rangers offered him more money for 1 year than Balt did. (TX wanted him to DH...but Cruz wanted to play in the OF still).
Absolutely correct

I think it more likely to pick up more pitching then Upton. But yes quite a few more dominoes to fall. Bet it picks up this week

David Schoenfield thinks the Ranger will get Upton. That's enough to ensure it won't happen haha.

Saddles asked me, a few days ago, what I thought the Rangers might be willing to pay Upton on a one year deal. And I honestly don't have a firm figure to present.

If they feel LF, with only Hamilton penciled in, is in dire need, then are they willing to commit to $14-16 mil for him, since Hamilton is basically free this season? I just don't know.

Is this too low of a number? But a semi-platoon of Hamilton/Upton in LF would be mighty comforting to me.

Upton would get a lot more than 14-16 mil on a one year deal. My guess is at least 19, and that might be conservative.

Well, if you're correct, I don't see the Rangers willing to go that route. For all I know, they may not be willing to even go with my lower numbers.

If not, what are our options? If DDJ splits time with Josh, is Maz or Brinson the answer in CF? IDK but an answer should be coming soon.

i'm expressing my opinion you don't like it jackass ignore it

Your opinion is based in ignorance and it gets old seeing you whine constantly with no knowledge of which you speak. Im allowed to point that out. It's a fucking message board. Deal with it. And try to tone back the childish name calling.

Mazara is not a center fielder.

My bad but still we need a back up CF. I'm undecided what is the best way to go. I think money is there to spend if FO wants Upton and the price is right. If not, it appears the CF position needs support. Thoughts?

DDJ will start the season as the starting center fielder with Hamilton and Ruggiano splitting time in LF. Brinson and Mazara will start the season at AAA most likely. Assuming Mazara continues to thrash AAA pitching he'll get called up as soon as Hamilton's glass body suffers its first injury. Could be Gallo depending on how he's doing.

I have no idea what our options are for backup CF/bench bat are. Do we currently have anyone on the 40 man? They won't use Brinson in that role, and they shouldn't.

DeShields is going to be our CF, at least to begin the season IMO.

I don't know if the Rangers are thinking of going with Hamilton/Rua in LF or not. But for me, I'm not counting on any of the minor league guys to come to the rescue in 2016. But hope I'm wrong on that.

But you're right, we've got to get a versatile OF who can spell DeShields for next season.
