that is a myth!

they swell the wood though, doors are tighter, drawers are harder to close, more moisure in the air, but not really damp and when the dew point is low they work GREAT!

problem is, open boxes of food get stale, or they do get damp inside. cereal and potato chips must be kept in the fridge, or in a good pantry

hahahaa. that is a big scare out here! some people make big money on that! but as soon as you turn the heater on any mold there might me dries right up.
there ONLY place mold could occour is in the walls or in the vents, in and neither are caused soley by a swamp cooler.

the Master cool unit can cool the house down to 65 degrees on a hot day with low humidity and a low dew point.

it is actually the dew point that causes the swamp cooler to not work

Swamp coolers are great in the SW, I wouldn't use one anywhere else though. I had one when I lived in NM.

swamps are nice for addin a lil water to the air, but it is not to the point where it is uncomfortable. You barely notice it
