We all need to hope and pray that both James Harrison and Troy Polamalu come back healthy in week five, or it is going to be a long, ugly season for the defense.

Just not enough play-makers. A real shame, too. It's not like the Steelers haven't devoted early round draft picks on defense, of late.

Heyward, Hood and Timmons come to mind. With how the Rooney's prefer to build through the draft, and only through the draft, they cannot afford to miss with early picks. Those three guys have a whole lot to prove, yet. I hope they show improvement over the course of the season, because their time is now.

How can anyone be hating on Haley right now when it comes to the passing game?

Ben leads the league in TD passes, and ranks second in QB rating. The red zone offense looks great, as well. I think that's a non-story.

More worried about LeBeau and the defense. Maybe Foote should start calling plays that aren't in the play book, cause the ones he's using ain't workin

lebeau needs to let the 3 you just mentioned PLAY. Read-React 2 Gap/ has no place in the modern passhappy NFL, particularly if you have a shitty 2ndary. Go to a 1Gap Attack with lots of exotic blitzes (that he's still good with). It also sucks that they are so thin @ OLB they are keeping Timmons up on his playing weight if he has to sub in there.

I'm convinced the only reason we're sticking with the ineffective running game is that defenses are so stupid they actually bite on the PA game. It's shocking.

I need to do some more effective research to verify, but I read on some blog this is the 6th 2nd half lead of 10 points or more that Tomlin has blown. Inexcusable.
Soft attitude is translating to a lot of veterans who should have killer instincts and pride.

granted the buck stops on coach T's desk but the team as a whole always seams to take a break at the worst possible time its like they think that they have it in the bag

The o-line has no snarl in the rush blocking department. Pouncey and Colon both do an admirable job, but that's about it.

Gilbert, Foster and Starks just don't get any movement in the defense's front seven. I didn't think DeCastro would be all that big of a loss because he is so young, but it looks as if his presence would be welcomed, right now.

IDK but what I saw yesterday was a steeler offense that was able to put points up on the board ... and a defense that couldn't stop the other team from putting points up on the board plain and simple this isnt the steeler defense that we are accustomed to

I never thought I'd see the day when LeBeau couldn't adjust to what the opponent is doing. He used to be brilliant at taking what the enemy is giving, and turning the tables on them (Jets Wk. 2).

Both the Broncos and Raiders took full advantage of zone coverage in the defensive secondary. What was disappointing to me is, the scheme never changed, but just one week prior they changed to a press coverage, and it worked!

I don't get it. They will be kicking themselves for 14 days until the Eagles game. What a nasty loss.

It goes beyond three weeks, Misk. This has been a problem for a couple season's now. 2010 Superbowl comes to mind. 2nd rat game at home, last season is another.

LeBeau can become too enamored with his zone scheme. Sometimes, if the pressure just isn't getting there, you have to change your approach. He refused to do it in Denver and he did the same thing yesterday in Oakland.

Evolver, I couldn't agree more. Offense has some bugs in it, but the boys are scoring more than enough pts to win. The big problem is on the other side of the ball. Pass defense not cutting it, especially in second half. Opponents are adapting to our D, and LeBeau isn't adjusting to compensate.

We had Manning contained early in game 1, but he picked us apart later. OK, that's Manning...but Carson fucking Palmer?

Would it have been different with a healthy Polamalu and Harrison in there? Maybe, but a defense can't depend on one or two guys. LeBeau is a legend...absolutely...but he needs to start earning his pay.
